I still do some consulting for the company that acquired mine.
They are the world's largest electronic component distributor and have 26 offices
in China and South Asia. They also purchase many of their products from China,
Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.
Many of their customers in Asia are holding back on orders as production is hampered
by factory closedowns and limited workers. Their suppliers have pushed out deliveries
and only supplying emergency orders for large customers. The feeling is that it will
get better in the next 60 to 90 days.
Taiwan is delivering better than most Asian countries but higher technology components
from Japan and South Korea see the delays. Japanese companies have many manufacturing
plants in China, Malaysia and Vietnam so some are up to speed but can't necessarily get
the raw materials they need.
Expect delays for the near term and we will know better on longer term outlook in the next
few months.
