Hi Guys,

These are all Britains figures. The firing line guys were from the collector club special issue they did in 2010 It was number 50020C And was very limited in number so when I saw them I decided to go ahead and order 4 so I could build a nice looking firing line. I wish I had ordered 4 of the guy loading as well but I also wanted the 95th Rifles guy so I just ordered one of each for the additional rate from the club. I didnt notice the difference in the paint until I snapped the photo I dont have an explaination for this other than the guess about the different factories. Needless to say i am just happy that they keep producing them as part of the club and some in the Red Coats Line. Just hope the do some more regular issues and let us beef up the line a bit more. Would also love some Russian Hussars for them to engage. Fingers crossed{sm4}

Dave

I also have a pretty good selection of the Charge of the Light Brigade figures if any one is interested in seeing them I will post some photos here, let me know.

I have the same display, except only one of each (I got two of the 95th, though). It's a very nice little set up, and I, too, would love a mounted figure.
I just had an awesome idea: one year, the Britains club should do all mounted club figures, such as a hussar for Crimean, a cavalry officer or ACW, a special lancer for Napoleonic, a general for Archive, and a mounted Zulu. Even though the club price would have to be raised ($30-$50) I would love that!

Hey Sandor,

Thats a really cool idea! I would certainly enjoy getting a mounted figure as the club figure. Maybe there is a way to get them to do something like that as a special issue also I will have to ponder that one.

I think it is a cool idea as well. May be worth enquiring. Although for the AZW I would prefer a lancer or dragoon. :)

Sounds great too (I'm not a Zulu guy, so you would know better)! Wait... how 'bout a figure depicting a mounted soldier of the native contingent who is fleeing Isandlawana, and warning those at Rorke's? Just like the story!

I'd be in for one of those !!!!

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll give them a call Monday.

As to the idea of a mounted figure for the club, that would be very nice indeed. I do think though that it should NOT be the normal club subscription figure. I would prefer it be a seperate offering for club members, that way the membership price could remain the same.

This figure is my favourite thin red line figure to date the sculpting is crisp & very detailed where as the standing firing figure wasn't so much, dont get me wrong I liked both but the quality between the two is vastly improved.

I agree Craig, he is the best of the bunch so far. I think for me it's because having a figure posed taking a ball out of his pouch is something out of the ordinary.

The officer and flagbearer are also nice figures and rather well done.

Totally agree those 3 are the best :) it really is a nice group of figures, hopefully we will see some kneeling firing figures to go with them!

It is interesting that other people were thinking that too! The pose is very nice, and the sculpting is crisp. It's all in the details....

The famous painting of the Thin Red Line doesn't show any of the 93th kneeling, but nothing says that we have to keep it historically correct. :wink2: (of course that assuming the painting IS correct! LOL)

My vote would go for a highander at the ready, bareheaded with his feather bonnet lying next to him. Or maybe a wounded one falling. I always prefer the out of the ordinary figures. ^&grin

Here a reference to the painting.

I Have that figure as well but he is in a box still. The hastles of moving and sorting and resorting to get everything where it needs to be...

Well I figured since we are discussing the Crimean set I should go ahead and post a photo of the Charge of the Light Brigade Display I had up till the move it will be going up in my next curio purchase.

So here are some photos of what is mainly Britains figures but I have some other makers as well and they will be incorporated into the next display. I hope to have a 2 gun battery and an assortment of Infantry supporting the guns. As well as some additional sets of Hussars and Dragoons from Medallion to go with the Britains.

Very nice Dave, I have always liked that butcher Jack figure. Do you have the Scot & Hussar duelling set?

hi Scott,

I actually have two of them got one many years ago and got another in a bulk deal a while ago. It is a very nice action set!

I just got off the phone with First Gear/Britains Collector Club. They had 4 left. I bought 2 so I could use my birthday voucher. I was rather suprised to hear that they had any left. Thanks again britfarmer for the suggestion.

NOTICE! If anyone reading this wants one they better act fast before they're all gone!

I like Dave N.'s set very much. I have not made the plunge into the Crimean VC range.

It is a shame this range - under whatever name - has been discontinued. I would have been very interested in buying these figures after finishing off the gloss Zulu War and indian Mutiny VC ranges.

I think Britains is making a mistake in not offering at last one range from the colonial wars in gloss for the completists and diorama builder.

I would even take the Boer War or the Boxer Rebellion ..... ^&grin

That funny, because I did something similiar but in reverse order. I started collecting the VC Crimean figures as I like the period, uniforms etc. Them more recently, I started collecting the VC Indian Mutiny series when Treefrog had a sale on them to clear their stock. I currently have about half of that series and most all of the Crimean series.

I also considered collecting the Zulu War glossy figures, but I didn't want to stretch my dollars too thin. Plus the fact that I like to collect something a little different and alot of people collect Zulu War figures.

AND... Wher are you gonna put all this stuff! LOL {eek3} ^&confuse
