For those of you have DirecTV or some other satelite service, "Cross of Iron is on right now on FLIX. If its on now, it will be repeated several times over the next few weeks. It's really good so far. James Coburn, Maximilian Schell, and James Mason, what a line up of great actors.

Yes, a great movie by Sam Peckinpah.Love the WILD BUNCH too!
Saw that one at the drive in about 1973 {?} with my older sister and one of her friends. They hated it, I loved it!
Must find a DVD of Cross of Iron.

True, I forgot about that part, it's an R rated movie in Australia - for good reason.

However I have to say it's not as violent as a dvd I rented yesterday called 'The Proposition'. It's a 'western' set in Australia in the 1880's and includes a few stars such as John Hurt. Australia was similar to the US during that era as people colonised the interior of Australia as well as Goldrushes, and Bushrangers (outlaw robber types). The movie starts with one of the most realist 'shoot-outs' I've seen, but gets more disturbing after that with wanton payback violence.
