In Vietnam, before launching any long range patrol, the leader does both a map and aerial recon, where he choses a series of rally points along the line of march the patrol will take. This allows his higher headquarters to always know where they "probably" are during the course of the patrol. but also as a point that the patrol can "rally" at in case they are hit and scattered. Most rally points are easily defined terrain features such as bends in streams, rock formations, hill tops, etc. Each point is given a code word, usually a series of common one word names of animals, states, or in this case girls names. Each point when crossed is radioed in with the name as the patrol progresses.
This diorama is one of 4 that I made for David Levinthal, Mega King and County collector who is using them to help illustrate his latest book (his 20th), this one on Vietnam. David used toy soldiers to illustrate historical themes, and his pictures hang in many of the top art galleries' around the world, and usually go for 4 figures ($) on up. I would encourage you all to visit his fascinating life and the art he makes with K&C and other figures at WWW.Davidlevinthal.com. for a fascinating look at our hobby is high art.

I modified several of the figures arms so they wouldn't be dragging their weapons through the water. The detail on both these K&C US and Anzac SF soldiers make diorama photos very realistic and life like. The water is epoxy resin, the base is my usual go to Insulation foam, the trees and bushes from my wife's garden and foliage bought on various ebay sites on line.

Great diorama, , fantastic jungle imitation and great conversion on the figures .
One expects to see a viet cong fighter jumping out of the bushes
Great result
Guy:smile2:

Thanks Guy-I'm a big fan of your stuff to. The object of this small patrol is to NOT have any VC jump out of the bushes....just "sneak and peek" as we used to say

That just looks so life-like Pat that I don't know what to say.

It's simply a true work of art!

Thanks for sharing the history of the dio and the info on David.
