CRU043 Mamluk Warriors Scaling Ladder Ships End September! (1 Viewer)

Nice catch Noah. Wow, they are excellent looking pieces-I'm going to ping Matt to see if they could 'work and play' with the current JG pieces as I've already invested in some of those-would love to add some FL pieces to it.

Hi Mike and Noah,

The castle walls and towers definately do look quite impressive. I'll be very interested in seeing what the gate will look like. I already have the JG walls, towers and gate, which are also very nice. The wheels in my brain are turning. Mike, please let us know what you find out about mixing the FL and JG pieces. My first impression is that they look too different to be realistically compatable. I'd sure like to see what that gate will look like.

And...price will, of course, be a consideration for most of us. It will be interesting to see how the various modular castle parts compare in price to the JG modular parts.

I've sent an email to FL to see if they could offer guidance on how well FL and JG pieces might play together-REALLY hoping they do ! I'll advise when I hear back.

You've gotta love a guy like Matt, it was approx 0200 in China when he responded to my note (why do I always think he's based in TX?).

He advised that they designed and built their castle components independent of what any other maker has released into the market and that they built them to their standards (which as we all know are quite impressive). He doubted that there would be much 'work and play' between his creations and JG Miniatures sets as they didn't factor that into their design and production.

Who knows, maybe some experimentation might be in order ?

Mike, thanks for sharing that with us. My primary concern in buying into the FL castle would be that the modular parts would all continue to be available over a long period of time, so that I could build my diorama slowly and still be assured of getting all of the castle parts that I would want. The JG modular parts have continued to be available for manyears now. I'm going to email Matt with that question and will share the answer with you. If the gate will be as neat as I expect, this castle is looking extremely tempting to me.

I'm also curious as to whether there will be a corner tower available, as with the JG castle and I have added that question to my email to Matt. I'll report back. It doesn't look like the pictured tower can be used as a corner tower, due to the small wall part extending past it on either side. George

Well, I've already received a reply back from my email to Matt. I have to admire a man who is so dedicated to what he produces and so considerate to his customers. What a great guy! He wrote not to worry about the length of time the various castle components will be available, as they will be available for a good while. He also said they will be putting up photos of various possibilities for configuring their modular castle components when they officially load the catalog and that they are considering the possibility of releasing additional components in addition to the upcoming city gate. Sounds exciting! It will be fun to see the various possibilities they come up with.

I agree, Matt's passion to deliver great products (and his responsiveness) comes through loud and clear. Like you, I can't wait to see options he plans to offer. I may end up owning two castle sets (as if that's what I need...but what the heck).

Re: CRU043 Mamluk Warriors Scaling Ladder-Has Arrived !

Gents,
I was just pleased to get an order delivered from FL that includes the Ladder set and a few extra Mamluk/Crusader series figs. To me, the ladder set looks better in person than the website pics (and I always like the website pics). The sword on one of the climbers is a bit loose, but I figure it's nothing some discreet glue can't cure. I'll try to stage it and post a few pics in the AM.
I'd really like to know if FL might release either some additional climber figures (as I want more than one ladder going up the face of the castle and I've got a siege tower to staff ) or sell the climbers loose for my siege tower.
At any rate, well done FL, very well done.

Some pics of the ladder set. Forgive the shaky hand on the camera, had to take some quick pics and run to the airport.

Hi Mike, Thanks for posting pictures of the FL figures on the JG wall. The Mamluks climbing the ladder are really nice and look just great on the JG wall. I see that you have the FL archers. How do you think they compare to the K&C archers?

Thanks,
George

Hi George,
I really like the FL archers (especially the crossbowman). The paint work is more 'muted' (weathered/worn effect?) than the KC archers , but make no mistake, I really like the KC archers/crossbowmen as well and have several-just didn't feature 'em this time. I feel they mix well together.

Thanks, Mike. I think I'll order the crossbowman and the firing archer sometime next month. George
