Well Queensland is about to be "smacked" by a massive Cat 5 Cyclone, it appears it will be the largest in our nations history. The Summer of 2011 will be an extremely memorable one for all Queenslanders and Australians.

Fingers crossed that our North Queensland brethren stay safe during this extreme weather event.

Our Australian cousins are not having the best start to the year. Just heard on the news that winds of 185mph are predicted. Keep your heads down, lads, and God keep you all safe. Our thoughts and best wishes are with you. Trooper

Expected to hit land in 2-4 hours. In the Cairns / Townsville area up north. The Cyclone is on a 500 km front and the eye is 100 km across. Winds will get close to 300 kph. It is the first time an Aussie hospital (Cairns) has even been completely evacuated. They are saying the impact will be greater than Katrina. Will co-incide with high tide so flooding will be a problem.

Not good at all.

Was just looking at size of it :

The storm's scale of destruction is as shocking as it is inevitable. In the map shown at link below, the United States from Pennsylvania in the east to Nevada in the west, from Georgia in the south to Canada in the north and well into Mexico would be battered with 300km/h winds and up to one metre of rain.

The site also shows the comparison if over Asia and Europe.

Brett, great link mate, thanks ... A picture is worth a thousand words ... This beast is a Tad larger than Katrina...
