Death of the Red Baron (1 Viewer)

You all are correct about the crosses on the Tripe. At the time of Richthofen's death the crosses were the straight variety, black outlined in white. The German Air Force was in the process of changing over from the various maltese crosses to the greek crosses in the March-April period. Not all aircraft had been changed by 4-21-18 but the Baron's had been. -- lancer

Michael et al,
Will start my journey on WWI aeroplanes! My grandfather, if alive, would love this stuff so much, we'd both be poor!
Merry Christmas all!
Mike

Mike - good luck with your WW1 aircraft collecting. I love that stuff, too, thanks to my father. You will find a good variety in 1/48 scale, lesser so in larger scale. Good hunting. -- lancer

Just an add on to WW1 aircraft - go to a die-cast dealer such as Flying Mule and look under "Carousel 1 Aircraft" or "Corgi - Aviation Archive Collector Series". There are Tripes, Spads, SE-5's, Albatri, Camels, and Nieuports offered in 1/48 scale. Nice models. -- lancer

I just did and love all the aircraft by Carousel 1. Great info. I do have a slight issue, however. That is, I want to stay 1/32 scale for reasons unbeknownst to me. I did get 1 FM B-17 for Christmas on Flying Mule. Please keep in touch on any new info.
Merry Christmas,
Mike

To any interested in 1/32 scale WW1 aircraft, I submit the SE-5 made by "The Dawn Patrol Collection". This is a superb museum quality brass model. You can see it at www.medallionminatures.com. It is long out of production and was of limited numbers but the site shows the Toy Soldier Version as still available. There were 4 levels of finish- Deluxe- Standard- Basic- and the mentioned TSV. I own the Bishop basic version and it is a work of art. They are not cheap and I do not know about secondary market prices or availability, but the hunt would be fun and the prize a model of unequalled excellence. You will not find a finer scale model of a WW1 aircraft. -- lancer

I have one..Bought it at the Vally Forge show a few years back ,at an intro price of $100.00..Nice piece, but needs a pilot figure..Michael

Lancer,
I looked at the website...WOW!!! The TSV is $275, but they are the finest quality!!! Is medallion the manufacturer? I saw the connesuir quality knights as well.
Thanks for the inspiration!

To Michael and Mike - I do not know the name of the manufacturer. The original box I have is no help. I agree it needs a pilot figure. I have found the Britains Premier Series and the old Toy Army Workshop figures go well in size, but I have no pilot, just an anti-aircraft MG and a mounted Haig to guard it. Mike, if you can find one of these SE-5's, you'll love it. I just wish I had been able to afford to get the Mannock craft as well. Beautiful work. Merry Christmas ya'll. -- Al

I saw this today in person.

The photos don't do it justice, its very well done. The Tri-Plane covering has a fabric like texture look.

The top wing at 1/32 scale would be just over 8-1/2" long. The Fokker looks bigger than seen in the pictures.

See for yourself, I think you'll be surprized, it looks about right IMHO.

The Red Baron was the smallest figure in the Diorama.

That is fabulous.

Yes,

I've seen this for sale at Wingsandwheel.com for $149.00 and they have Free-Shipping.

At that price I think its one of the bargains of the year.
