ROM-REP 001 Our first Republican Roman for all you fans of the Ceasarian era. The Roman Republic was the age of ancient Roman civilization beginning with the overthrow of the Roman Kingdom, traditionally dated to 509 BC, and ending in 27 BC with the establishment of the Roman Empire. It was during this period that Rome's control expanded from the city's immediate surroundings to hegemony over the entire Mediterranean world. During the first two centuries of its existence, the Roman Republic expanded through a combination of conquest and alliance, from central Italy to the entire Italian peninsular. By the following century, it included North Africa, most of the Iberian Peninsular and what is now southern France. Two centuries after that, towards the end of the 1st century BC, it included the rest of modern France, Greece and much of the eastern Mediterranean, internal tensions led to a series of civil wars, culminating with the assassination of Julius Ceaser, which then led to the transition from republic to empire. Our stunning looking Legionnaire stands ready to be called forward to do battle or perhaps on sentry duty – possibly manning the John Jenkins fort wall soon to be launched?

ACC PACK020; The Ordnance Quick-Firing 6-pounder 7 cwt, or just 6 pounder, was a British 57 mm gun, serving as a primary anti tank gun of the British Army during WW2, as well as the main armament for a number of armoured fighting vehicles. Although planned before the start of WW2 It did not reach service until the North African campaign in April 1942. This was in part due to the urgent need for re-equipping the British army after Dunkirk with anti-tank weapons, it was estimated that 600 x 2 pounders could be manufactured for 100 x 6 pounders, this and delays with the carriage design meant production with the 2 pounder carried on as an interim measure.
However once introduced it quickly replaced the obsolete 2 pounder in the anti-tank role, allowing the 25 pounder gun to revert to its intended indirect artillery role. The United States Army also adopted the 6 pounder as their primary anti-tank gun under the designation 57 mm Gun M1. The idea of manufacturing the 6 pounder in the US was expressed by the US Army Ordnance in February 1941. At that time, the US Army still favoured the 37mm gun the M3 and production was planned solely for lend lease. The US version, classified as substitute standard under the designation 57 mm Gun M1, was based on the 6 pounder Mark II, two units of which were received from the UK. Production started early in 1942 and continued until 1945. The M1A1 variant used US "Combat" tyres and wheels. The M1A2 introduced the British practice of free traverse, meaning that the gun could be traversed by the crew pushing and pulling on the breech, instead of solely geared traverse, from September 1942. The M1 was made standard issue in the Spring of 1943.

RS051 Japanese Type 92 ‘Woodpecker’ machine gun and crew; The Type 92 Heavy Machine entered service in 1932 and was the standard Japanese heavy machine gun used during WW2. It was used extensively by the Japanese Army and Chinese forces. Captured weapons were also used extensively by Chinese Revolutionary Army troops against the Japanese during WW2 and the Korean People’s Army against the United Nations forces during the Korean War. The Type 92 refers to the Japanese Imperial Year 2592 – 1932 in the Gregorian Calendar, the year in which the gun entered service.

Designed and built by Hino Motors and Hitachi, total production was over 45,000 guns. Our beautifully detailed all new machine gun set comes with the 2 crew figures, spare rifle, 2 spare ammunition clips and is priced at $80/£59. Please note as per the real thing the machine gun has a worn appearance and some paint will be missing from the barrel and bodywork of the machine gun. Customers should also note that the spare ammo clips are buried in the foam insert and may not be readily visible unless you dig deep!

I really like the new 6 pounder gun, hope TG produce alternative versions, 1 for the Western desert, but more one for Western Europe for British or Canadian troops in Normandy and beyond. Plus a couple more crew for the gun, lot of hard work for a short-handed crew.

The Aussie kneeing firing and the one running looks a good edition to my Aussie collection

The cavalry look fantastic. The Republican Romans are a bit of a surprise, but not an unwelcome one. I notice that both painted versions of the figures are limited editions (ie, there is no ongoing figure). So I do have a couple questions on the Republican Romans: how developed will the line be? Will the same figure be reissued in new colors? (For instance, there is no historical reason that the figure could not be painted with a white or blue or yellow shield) Will there be fighting poses, or will they remain in static or marching positions?

But will be adding many of them to my collection this Winter as thankfully for my finances, It's release has been put back otherwise I'd be cancelling Christmas presents for everyone but me !{sm4}{sm4}{sm4}

Best wishes to the TG team. Hope you all have a Great Christmas break and New Year and come back with lots of new great figures in 2018 !

I think the Republican Romans surprised everybody here on how nice they looked as a group. If these sell out then we can always make another version with a different shield so no problems with obtaining future figures in this pose. We would like to make fighting Republicans and because so there was so much infighting it would be easy to have these guys fighting each other as well as the Gauls recently offered by JJD. So we will see how these guys fare and then decide on a course of action. There will also be a couple of all action Velites from the earlier republican period to take on Hannibal's forces being released next year.
