Hi,

I first got into Britains in the mid to late seventies when my parents would buy me Deetail WWII and ACW (strange, I started collecting ACW figures as a 7 year old English boy - at the time I just liked the Blues and Greys) figures, cannon and vehicles. With the soon to be released, Deetail range will there be additional figures, in the forthcoming year such as another batch of 6 new ACW infantry or a range like the Napoleonics.

I have decided to buy the knight's and the western range for my six year old, as well as the full range for myself. (Bring back many a happy memory....

Quick question, what flags are the ACW figures holding. I believe one of them is an Irish regiment.

Hi Andy,

I too had a lot of the detail figures when I was akid they were a lot of fun and I probably spent too many days in the yard building battle fields for my regiments to deploy on.

As for the question about colors I do think one of those flags is an Irish Regiment probably from New York and the other one look like it might be from one of the western states but its difficult to tell with out holding the actual figures.

Like you I am going to get the knights series for my son along with the castle and probably the dragon they made a couple of years ago. I will also be looking at the other sets to see about getting him some of those as well especially since they have some new figures in the wild west sets.

Very fun and exciting to see they are trying to influence the grown kids of the future with these great kid friendly sets.

All the best

Dave

In the May issue of the Collector Club magazine they say that the new flagbearers of the Detail range are the Irish Brigade regimental flag and the Confederate National Flag. The Confederate National flag was done years ago on the plastic mounted figure and was considered rare. The more popular "stars and Bars" is the Confederate Battle Flag. Leadmen

I, too, am happy to see the updated Deetail range. My second set of toy soldiers was the 6 Union infantrymen, which I got for Christmas when I was 7 years old. (Ah, the memories . . .)

My five-year-old son is interested in the new ones. I'm sure he'll be getting some soon.

As for the flags, from what I can tell from the catalog, the Union infantry will have three types:

1) What appears to be a New York depot national flag. I can't tell what regiment from the picture, since I can't read the writing on the stripes.

2) The original flag of the 69th New York (part of the Irish Brigade). This flag actually pre-dates the war, and is known, ironically, as the "Prince of Wales Flag", because Cochoran refused to parade his militia unit for the future King Edward VII during an 1860 visit to New York.

3) A standard regimental flag. Most Union regiments, and especially the regular army, carried two banners -- a national and a regimental -- while Confederate regiments generally only carried one.

The Union cavalry carries what looks like Custer's guidon.

I'm not as familiar with Confederate banners. One is an Army of Northern Virginia battle flag. (From the battle honors visible in the catalog picture, its an ANV regiment.) Another is a Texas flag. I've seen the blue flag with the image in the white circle before, but right now I can't locate it anywhere. I think it might be from Louisiana, maybe?

The Confederate cavalry carries a variant of the First National flag. This was abandoned in favor of the battle flag by many combat units by 1862 because, when furled due to a lack of breeze, it was hard to distinguish from a furled US National.

Whatever they are, I hope to get one of each. The new painting is great. For years I was a little disappointed with the painting of the accoutrements in the original series -- since it made the Confederates more uniform than the Union!

Have fun collecting!

I believe the blue flag with white circle is Patrick Cleburne's Division in the Confederate Army of Tennessee, which was formerly part of Hardee's Corps in the Army of Central Kentucky.:)

The flag my union and 7th cavalry guys have has twenty stars with twelve red and white stripes and gold tasles all around. I guess it's one of the later flags but looks cool if not authentic.

Looks like I goofed on the Confederate flags. As I said, I don't know them that well. Researching this further, I think the blue banner with the figure in the white circle is a Virginia state flag, and the one with the large white star is North Carolina, not Texas. Check the following site for more http://www.confederateflags.org/states/FOTCstate.htm

Any way, I think the variety is really cool and the new paint schemes are great.

Blackhat nailed it guys. Could not have said it better in terms of what the flags are. Appreciate the research and responses Blackhat - thank you!

All the Best,

Richard

I get it now, I didn't realise you guys were talking about the NEW Deetail range, I was still stuck in the eighties. That would explain why my old Deetail are out of step :)
