I saw Defiance tonight with the girlfriend.

Fleeing Eastern European Jews escape to the woods to avoid the Nazi SS Death Squads, corrupt local police, unsympathetic Russian partisans, traitorous local villagers and ultimately Wehrmacht Panzer Grenadiers. Based on actual events.

We both thoroughly enjoyed it! Plenty of heartache and drama for the girls and plenty of action for the boys.

Highly recommended.

Cheers Pete

Thanks Pete, I haven't seen it yet but the reviews aren't good. Apparently the movie has caused outrage in Poland where the country is split over whether Daniel Craig is film hero or villain.

Here's a Times Online article about the movie: http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/film/article5420709.ece

Considering the poor reviews and suspect accuracy I will wait for the dvd to see the battles - action is action whatever the truth of the matter.

OZ thats interesting as the Reviews in the Sydney Newspapers have been very good.
But then i never realy go by Reviews :)

True, reviews are as variable as the reviewer, which is why I use the website "Rotten Tomatoes" that rates movies on numerous reviews: http://au.rottentomatoes.com/m/1000...by=rotten&name_order=asc&view=#contentReviews

The site is worth bookmarking, it has saved me wasting good money on rotten movies. The Australian reviews may have been positive but the global rating of 56% is in the Rotten Zone :) ;) :D

thanks for the link i will check it out :)

You're welcome, and as I said I will certainly rent the dvd when released to check it out for myself. With the price of movie tickets etc these days I do my homework before spending money at the movie theaters. With toy soldiers you are on a sure thing - movies are a hit or miss affair imo.

Yeah, me and the missus watched it in January. Was in Chinese bbut with English subtitles - I reckoned it was pretty good.
Certainly provided a lot of food for thought.

Hi Guys,
Looks like a mainly Aussie thread here.
I saw it today with my wife and we both enjoyed it. Not sure why the Poles would be upset with this. I thought it was set in part of Russia.
Regards
Brett

Reviewers like boring movies that they think are artistic.3 out of every 4 oscar winners suck.

I finally saw this last night and did some looking into the story. Look what popped up. It's the closest to a toy soldier of Tuvya and was done in LEGOs.

Maker's caption is quoted.

"From the movie Defiance. The best movie so far that I have seen this year. Cookie to anyone that makes a forest village or a battle scene from the movie. "

Being at the end of the Earth the DVD only recently appeared in rental format downunder and I have to admit I liked the movie. Based on some reviews I expected it to be rather biased but putting aside the usual artistic license common with all movies I feel it gave a balanced view of the various groups involved in this part of WWII.

Just finally watched this one this weekend on NetFlix. Great acting and movie...
