Desert Village (1 Viewer)

Some of the items featured in the K & C brochures for Desert War such as the Canaversery (I'm sure I misspelt that) came from Dept 56.

Dept 56 is a Minnesota company that specializes in resin figures and buildings that have either a religous or holiday theme. Most of their products are in 1:32/30. Some of their buildings and diorama materials work very well with some of the ranges in our hobby. Unfortunately the best series that works with desert themed ranges, "Little Town of Bethlehem", is retired. Here is a link to their web site http://www.department56.com/ Ebay has many, many Dept 56 items. That is where I have bought the majority of mine. Some times you get a deal and sometimes you don't. Take your time and if the one you see is too expensive, let it pass, more will be sold. They issued most items in the 10's of thousands.

Thanks Michael, I will check.

Cheers

Rod,

The pieces that K & C uses come from their Bethlehem range, much of which is no longer made but shows up quite a bit on ebay.

There is a mfg. of nativity stuff called Fontanini ( spelling? )that also produces buildings that seem larger than the D56 stuff..Michael

The spelling is correct. Their web address is http://www.fontaninistore.com/
they, like Dept 56, offer religous themed buildings and accessories. However, their 2 1/2 inch series is retired and everything that is now offered is 5 inch to 70 inch in scale. Again, Ebay is the source for some although 2 1/2 inch buildings are not offered that often and the selection is far less than Dept 56. However, their palm trees are superior to all others (IMO) and are still available. I have many that go well with other makers like Dept 56, BAR, and JGM. They are very good with Crusaders and DAK.

Wow, this must be the most versatile set I've seen produced by well, anyone. Ancient Egypt, Crusaders, Napoleon, Alamo, Old West, WWII North Africa Special Forces (please make more of them)...am I leaving anything out?

Sadly for my wallet, instead of using it for the pieces I have, it may get me to expand into more ranges.

I'm curious about the Napoleonic figures. I guess that would be Napoleon in Egypt? Has K&C ever made figures for those the French Expeditionary Force fought in Egypt and Syria (I believe it was local Egyptians, Mamelukes, Turks and the British Navy)?
