Would love to see Andy honor the greatness of Dick Winters with a toy soldier in his likeness. Sadly, I just read on CNN.com that he passed away on January 2 at the age of 92.

CS did a very nice large sculpt which, I am glad I have

ultimately, I think the CS statue is better suited in the likeness of the actor. I think Maj Winters would be done a disgrace by creating a miniature of him. Nothing personal to anyone but the guy really hated war, as most who have seen it do. There are those who seek to immortalize themselves through it (Patton, MacArthur, etc) who would only see it right that they are made toy soldiers of. Regular joes like Major Winters or most of the Easy dogs would probably rather not see it.

Reading his obit in the wall st. journal this am- interesting to read "..he was relatively unknown till the 1992 Band of Brothers book was released." Just kind of struck home to me that we never know what heroes live next to us.

I read somewhere that a number of 1/6th figures where made in the likeness of some 101st airborne troops and signed/endorsed by the intended persons. I cant see it doing a disgrace to the man to make a model of him, it would only publicise the sacrifice these guys made for our freedom.

Have to agree with Chris here. I also would not think it appropriate to do a figure now and, the fact that he had ''fame'' so to speak in the latter years of his life we could easily have seen a figure of him and the other troops before now. I think to do it now IMO would be somewhat in bad taste and seemingly making money from his death.

Doing a figure of Winters would be in direct opposition to someone of his quiet stature and modesty. I can't think of anything more inappropriate to someone who just wanted to do his duty and be left alone to live quietly and unbothered. JMO. -- Al

that was what I was trying to say, you just did it better than me bud. :)

Mitch- don't make it sound like agreeing with me is like getting a tooth pulled :D:D

Look fellas, I don't want to stir up a hornets nest on this- it was just my opinion- I think everyone on this board knows I am sort of partial to the 506 and certainly appreciate the effort of those currahee's.

Kindest regards
CC

Hey Chris, I liked the way you put it just fine. Was only adding my 2 cents worth in support. -- Al

I saw the news this morning saying he died a week ago. Very sad. We keep losing more and more of them and a lot of history goes with them, sad.

The horror. What we have been discussing has occurred. I received a military catalog that sells everything from books, models, DVD's, toy soldiers, die cast airplanes and tanks, etc. and there is a 1/6 scale Major Winters figure offered in it. It is quite a figure with authentic looking everything except it looks just like Damien Lewis, the BoB's Winters. I'm guessing this is some sort of license deal that didn't include Winters, other than the name, because of the afore mentioned fact that it looks like Lewis and not Winters. Anyone else see this or have an opinion as to how the manufacturers could use Winters name? -- Al

There is a new figure in the latest toy soldier mag called Major richard which, again is the spitting image of the chap who played winters in BOB so, it must be OK to use these figures to represent the guy that played him. Its supposed to be a BOB tribute figure.
Mitch

Chris...

It was called Captain Easy company but, its very like the chap who played winters and, a great sculpt IMO
Mitch

MITCH, Who made this figure and is it still available or where could I find one. Ron
