Did I miss this M4 Dozer Announcement? (1 Viewer)

I don't profess to be any kind of armor expert, far from it, but wouldn't a Sherman for D Day and post be a different model than a Desert Sherman. If so, we may not see that one.

Yes - that's true. So he has to change some bits on the tank with new molds to satisfy us in North America. Probably not that difficult compared to doing a new model.

Gary,
Would this tank appear in a winter white camouflage?

Kinda like this? It's an M4A1 which is the same basic machinery as the M4 but with a cast upper hull. The dozers were often mounted on the older tanks to keep the 76mm tanks free for combat, so this M4 is good for the whole war in Europe. Whitewash or whitepaint was added to many frontline combat vehicles in January, 1945 for the counterattack into the Ardennes.

By the way, I don't think that is creative pattern painting on the tank and blade, I think using the dozer has caused some of the white to rub away exposing the OD underneath.

Too bad (or really good luck?) that JG is not a Figarti fan, imagine every Sherman type and variant, including PTO Shermans with shirtless marines, ever made.:cool:

I'll be your JG on the Shermans. Some people see Sherman tank models and say "why?", I see Sherman tank models that have yet to be built and say "Why not?"... (apologies to Bobby Kennedy). It is true that once you get certain basic chassis and/or components availabe then more variations become possible.

To answer an earlier question - yes the M4A1s and M4A2s that went to Eighth Army in the desert were quite different in detail, but fortunately they are well documented so it only depends on Figarti's determination! Look under the M3 lee/Grant and M7 Priest models - there are your basic chassis for the desert Shermans.

Are you saying that the bottom half of the M3 Grant and M7 Priest are the same bottoms used in the M4A1 and M4A2 tanks? So that only a new upper half is needed to make a British desert Sherman??

Terry

There is a picture of this tank on page 36 of Concords "US Armored Funnies" # 7052. Concord says it is from 746th Tank Battalion, Normandy, June 44.

Good to know. Can you see the name on the side of the tank in the book photo?

Terry

Yes, it is named Apache. But the picture has a few markings not on the Figarti tank, such as the crew put the states they were from on the front side, and there was a warning placard saying the tank was waterproofed and should be stripped before operations.

Very close - the "M3" type bogies, the hull pan, the three-piece transmission cover. Add the cast upper hull for an M4A1 or the welded upper hull for an M4A2. Toss on the turret (very similar to that on the new M4 model) with an early 75mm gun mount and you about have it. Add the British desert fittings and you are flying!

can anyone kindly explain to me, why is there a number 3 on the dozer itself, whilst the sherman has a number 6?

Nasir, forgive me if these are stupid ideas but could it either be just the number of the actual shovel,or some sort of beach/group no?.

Wow, Figarti really has this Sherman thing down with their avalanche of recent releases. Great stuff. This latest is a unique piece and it looks great. I like how they have released many different versions of the Sherman to satisfy all you Shermanoholics out there. Great time to be a collector!
