Hi guys, I'm sure this question has been asked before but what is commonly used as a base board on which to build a diorama?
I'm putting together a parade ground dio and the base needs to be around 30 inches by 30. My main criteria is that it stays flat and does not warp as it will be surrounded by railings / walls and will have some fairly heavy dio facades around the edges. The board itself will not be built upon - just covered with a slate flooring paper. My initial thoughts are 1/2 inch MDF would do the job?

I use pink insulation foam, but since you are not sculpting, I would try plywood, which would also enable you to use a picture frame as a decorative boarder.

I use a variety of hardboard but, the size that you are talking about will be fine and, with what you are adding will not warp. Look forward to seeing the dio when its done
Mitch

Thanks for the input guys. Sounds like plywood is the way to go then.
Mitch, the parade dio is to display my ever-growing collection of LAH (I know your a fan of the range).
I've come up with a way of displaying the K&C dio pieces (the LAH headquarters, eagle archway etc.) using some accessories from John Gittins and Hudson & Allen. My plan is to have the parade ground enclosed by railings from JG surrounded on two sides with cobblestone road / pavement sections from H&A.
That way I can add other pieces (vehicles, SA bill posters etc.) around the display as my collection expands. Just waiting for K&C to release the LAH annex buildings before I can set it up properly. I'll post photos in the K&C section once its done. Carlin.
