Hitlers and his loyal staff at his Bunker deep inside the Reichstag complex, waiting out his final days and pinning on medals to his die hard loyalists while the rest of the city flees the advancing Rooskies...... so much for the 1000 year Reich

YOur actually both right-when researching pictures of Berlin and Hitlers bunkers a couple of years ago I saw Jakobs building. This is my version of that-mines a bit different but he did such a nice job on his and it fit what I was trying to depict so I built my own. He does great work. As I had a lot of stuff I wanted to put on mine I expanded the scene size to. The building is made of foam core, windows from China and the under construction tower is PVC pipe covered in Spackle. Everything else is King and Country.

Dear Pat,
you put together a marvellous diorama, the setting is great, the story is great and your building is that of a master diorama builder.
please let me make some historical remarks ( the dioramas I put together always have to be 100% historically correct)
Why two Hitler figures in the scene ?
I can also spot Field Marshal Goering together with Hitler coming out of the bunker. The last time these two men met was on the 20th of April and they met in the Reichstag . Goering flew in especially from Carinhall to congratulate Hitler on his 56th birthday. Hitler especially left his Führerbunker for this meeting. After the meeting Goering left immediately for Obersalzberg and then went to Castle Mauterdorf where he grew up as a child .. He was not in Berlin when the city fell.( the front of the bunker suggests it was the 20th of April when Hitler came out of the bunker for his last public appearance to congratulate the Hitlerjugend)
another small detail : civilians were not allowed to approach the bunker so closely out of fear for an assault on Hitler's life
these are only a few remarks from a person obsessed with and an eye for detail , I hope you are not offended, and please keep up the good work and effort.
Guy

Such a fun diorama to look at .... so much going on, keeps the eye and interest moving.
I especially enjoyed the many stories that can be found all in one place, rolling them into a single setting.
Wonderful idea .. and FUN, FUN, FUN!

Thank you for getting my Saturday off to a great start ....^&grin

Questions on the 2 Hitlers.....Everyone (legend says....??) says that Hitler had a stand in double that was often substituted at some gatherings to keep assassins guessing....why not include him into the scene.....? After all,he was soon to be unemployed so what not have a last hurrah with the big guy?? ;)

Hi Guy
No offense at all-I to like to be historically accurate to a point but also like to use artistic license as I like to think that when we all build dioramas, we are creating mini works of art, making our own interpretations of historical events in time. I love your stuff that you do and do appreciate the feedback. I did not know any of the info you shared. I only buy figures when they say to me...."This would make a great diorama...." and these K&C figures and bunkers said that to me. I unfortunately have too many boxes of figures, vehicles, planes, etc that have "talked" to me over the years, and so am continually turning over my dioramas in my Macho room as I work my way through my stash creating new ones for myself or collector friends. I love the Imagination, design and engineering challenges of building these large dioramas, and being retired and playing crappy golf in the 2 week season we have here in MN, am enjoying the hell out of this hobby........... always open to feedback on how I can make my dio's better-thanks Guy

Thanks Larry-as Andy always says, creat little stories in your Dio vignettes, which brings you back again and again to find something you missed at first glance. Glad I could make a nice start to your saturday-makes the effort worth while.

Great work mate do you sell any of your work?

Wayne
Yes-I sold this one and got an order today for a second one and sold the carrier I had on here last week. I was originally selling my own stuff to clear out my macho room but have begun to take commissions. Its a hobby for me, not a money maker. I'm retired and my golf game sucks so I do this-go to my website GallaghersGallery.com that has some of my past and current work and several for sale, all under $1K .
I'm a Vietnam vet so I'm about to do 3 new dioramas-Battle for the Citadel in Hue, House to house street fight in Hue, (I took 2 of my Striker companies north of Hue in Jan 69 in response to intel they were going to attack again on first anniversary, but it never happened, but did get to see much of the city briefly) and a Jungle ambush. I'm using the K&C Marines for the first two, and I'm converting the Aussie figures for the third into a Green Beret patrol, of which unit I was a part of-one of my teammates was an Aussie SAS WO we called Pops as he was the oldest on the team by 15 years (he was all of 42.....) and the other aussies with us were great mates to us young guys. I've been doing large dios lately, (last one, the Omaha beach diorama was 50 sqr ft) but I'm going to make the VN ones 2 x 4' or a bit smaller for easier shipping. Anyway, thanks for asking-hope I didn't talk to much but hey.....I'm Irish,,,,^&grin

Never thought about posting the video on Youtube, but you peaked my interest. I made the DVD from my old Super 8 camera film for college lectures I do and for my kids. Video is mostly about my Spec Forces team in our camp, our 600 Montagnard strikers and then a mission into Cambodia to do a BDA (Bomb damage assessment) of a B-52 strike we called in on a NVA complex. My Camp.A-234 was right on the border. We'd sometimes watch at night the headlights of trucks coming down the Ho Chi Min trail about 8 clicks away which was unusual as they usually ran without lights. Their roads were often lined with logs along the side so they could drive at night by "Feel." In many places, the trees were tied together over the road so they were invisible from the air. They were very resourceful and tenacious so had to admire that.I'll figure out how to post it on Youtube and let you know-thanks for the idea
