DISSAPOINTED with the NEW CS Tobruk WW2 Sets! (1 Viewer)

Thank you Alex. That is a nice looking 88. Sorry to be a pest but it would be good to see some CS and K and C figures next to each other.
Regards
Damian

Man, the Collector Showcase figures heads look many too skinny. That can't be right, right?

Carlos

:( Hello Alex! Now, you know what I mean buy the CS are Much smaller and Puny, and they're exactly Like Conte's , Britains, and Frontline Figure's and NOtT True 1/30th Size Scale! I feel sorry for Brian in a Way because, he wanted his figure's to be Exactly, Compatible to Andy's K & C! Because, from the First Original, WW2 German SS, and U.S. Airborne Sets that CS made, was Larger and Not Feasible, to a Lot of WW2 Collector's! Although I Personaly like the Larger Size, it is Different! Didn't CS/Brian, Realize, when he had gotten the Samples, from Hong Kong/China, that they weren't 1/30th Scale and Puny in Body Statue? If I was the Dealer /Purchaser, I would have told the Company in Hong Kong/China, to remake the Correct Sizes, or look for a NEW Reputable Company! The CS 88th Gun is Decent, but Andy's is a (HEAVIER) Metal in the Base and can't see the Welded Seems? The KETTENKRAD is Fine, and Larger than K & C --the MOTORCYCLE Combo is Nice and a Little Larger than K & C, but the Men are Puny! And so is the 3-Man Infantry, and Rommel and Adjutant, and 88th Gun Crew, ALL Small Heads, and Body! To me to be Happy on this TOBRUK Set , is a Disaster, and a Big Dissapointment / Let Down! Because , I'm a Die-Hard Collector when it comes to the DAK, and 8th Army N. Africa! I'm Really Hurt Personnaly, and Sorry for this Company!I had High Hopes for CS!

Actually, it's my opinion that CS is the correct scale and really the heads aren't too skinny at all. I was just kidding in what I said in my previous post.

KC has done an outstanding job creating the bench mark were everyone else in the scale (1/30) gets compared.

I'll be buying some of CS's vehicles too. Brian has come a long way, especially in the figure size (true scale in ACW and DAK), my only wish is that he puts more color in the skin tones. Yes, it is war and it doesn't have to be pretty like KC for my taste but please more color would be more attractive.

We found when entering Andy's figures into our software ( yes we were able to scan in a flat image for precise measurements ), we found the heads to be 30% larger than normal. This explains the wonderful detail in the face paint on some of his most excellent figures. However we are going for a more realistic well proportioned figure more akin to diorama products of recently. I grew up with Andrea and Pegaso were proportion was critical.

In regards to face paint we have tried to move to a rosier " fleshier " color palette in Arnhem, 14th Brooklyn and Hitler Youth ( all in the next release due out in Feb 08 ), this we call: CS3 ( CS2 being the present release ). This is meant to pull in the fleshier more pleasing to the eye colorization that collectors are used to while at the same time retaining a realistic look. Head sculpts for CS3 were totally revamped. We will have the entire release up on our site for pre-order review in two weeks.

I LOVE the DAK and have the full selection in my curio cabinet at home. My wife laughs because its the first soldiers I've brought home! And I am very critical of pieces. I think the DAK is just plain neat looking, the 88 turned out great and the tank is just a pleasure to own myself.

Lets just all have loads of fun, cause thats what we do this for. We're soon to be sold out of everything DAK , I can happily say everything is selling extremely well.

Best regards to one and all!

Brian

I agree that the there is a noticeable size difference in the K & C and CS, but now that I see the CS DAK 88 crew (finished product) I think they look very realistic. One could argue that the heads on the K & C DAK loader and infantryman are slightly large. However, not to the point that I wouldn't want them. In fact the K & C figure holding the shell is one of my favorites. For me Johngambales point is made well as far as size difference but the crew of the CS 88mm (IMO) look great.

I almost hate to say anything in fear of stirring things up but as far a human anatomy goes. I’m a design engineer and in order to built anything we have to go by anthropometrics. That’s the science of the size and shape of the human body and how it relates to its environment. So if you don’t have $100.00 to buy a copy of “human dimension & interior space” a source book of design reference standards by Julius Panero, AIA, ASID and Martin Zelnik, AIA, ASID go look at any artist anatomy book. Every human body has the same basic measurements and because we all have bilateral symmetry our measurements are the same on both sides. So keeping all of this in mind when you reduce something it starts looking strange. This is because our minds expect things to always look a certain way. This also brings style into the equation. We are all used to a certain style and artist from other companies mimic styles of what sells in order to make a living. In fact the basis of all sculptural styles today where set by the Romans. You can look that up in any art history book. They favored larger smooth heads with large almond shaped eyes. Creating a child or doll like appearance. That’s why everyone made such a big deal over Leonardo’s art because for the first time ever he tried to make art scientific and sculpt as well as draw the human form in correct apportions. Again look any of this up. So with all of this said companies like the Black Hawk figures and CS are in fact pretty close to correct for real humans. That’s why the look kinda like people in the photos. And that’s not my words but those of other folks on this very forum. Also if you need more proof just look at the photo below the K&C figure heads are oversized in fact they are almost the size of the entire shoulders, they have short necks if necks at all. The hands are too large and the fingertips come all the way down to their knees. Go on stand up a check you’ll find no ones arms are that long. Now none of this is K&C bashing. That is the artist’s style and that is fine. In fact I like the figures and if I were into the subject I would gladly buy them. The only resin I bought the motorcycle is ….well it’s just cool. I think the problem is J that you wanted these figures to be so good and the wait was so long and the hype was so much that when you got them you felt let down. Because at the end of the day there are still just a $25.00 tin soldier. But then again I could be completely wrong. Lord knows it wouldn’t be the first time. Well I hope that helps.

So what you’re saying here john is you like your men plump and well fed. A bit of a chubby chaser huh…. I’m just kidding, just kidding. I’m trying to make light of a bad situation. Do you think you might be over reacting? I got my bmw r75 and love it. It’s one of the jewels of my collection and it fits in well. As far as scale goes… well that’s just silly I’ve see all companies change the scale of there stuff all the time even in the same release. That’s how hand made goes. As far as skinny goes. I’m a G.I. brat and lived around the army most of my life. I’ve never seam a fat soldier. Hell I’ve never seen a well-feed soldier either. Even in today’s army in peace or wartime. Now If no one minds I’m going to go daydream about all the dioramas I saw at the last show and wish more companies would start selling there displays.

We sell our dioramas. We will even make one for you:)

AH!.... Thanks. I've seen your product around a lot and like it too. I make a lot of my own stuff but trees are one thing I've never been good at and I did like the palms you guys have. Well I'm hooked... whacha got?

OOps, hey there David I thought you where someone else. See I make mistakes all the time. But I am checking out your website right now. I've seen your store on tabletop gaming news before. You are across the pond from me but let's see what I find. You never know.

No problem. On that post from left to right it’s Conte with the flag then CS and lastly forces of valor. I put the rulers up to show even though they are all supposed to be the same scale they are all a little off. Also the flesh color on all three is different. But when I look at them they bring back all of the happy childhood memories. Not to sound sappy but isn’t that what it’s all about?

:( The CS Motorcycle in Comparism with K& C is Larger, but the figure's are Puny, Smaller! The KEETENKRAD CS, IS Larger than K & C, the Figure is OK, breakeage on the Rear is Delicate, and should have been made Total Metal! The 88th GUN is Fine, but the 88th Gun Crew don't fit the GUN! I will show you, as soon as I will Post my Personal 1/30th DAK Figure's against CS ! The CS 3-MAN Infantry is Nice, but Small, and Puny! I Hope CS will CORRECT, the Future Figure's and Vehicles? MAN , I WISH some one will get it Right soon!

Help me out J, because I just don’t see the scale problem. They are hand made toys not Swiss watches man. But if they are causing you this much pain get rid of them. Take them back to the store or sell them for a profit on eBay. Hell man melt them down to make your own toys. I don’t know but you’re not a victim, no one has conned you into buying these. This is an insanely small market so money and profit can’t be the driving resin of why Brian got into game. It’s got to be love man, love for the toys and love for the collectors. Lord knows it’s not easy to run a business in any country but especially in today’s shrinking global economy. So why them are you sitting on the sidelines not offering constructive criticism but tearing them down? Look we all know the flesh is to pail on the ACW and now that I got mine I’ll gladly say it too and the whites of the eyes of the DAK are not painted in. But we’ve all seen the photos of the 14th Brooklyn and the Arnhem Bridge sets so we know that’s been fixed. Also to say that the figures are weak and look terrible and that they remind you of Conte and Britain’s is not only mean to CS but mean to Conte and Britain's too. Man life is nothing more than a great big game and there are two kinds of players in it. Those that bring something to the table and add to it and those that take away. Ask yourself what kinda player are you being. At least Brian is trying. If there are nothing out there that you’re happy with then start your own company and make your own figures.

Our terrain store is a collection of pieces I have made for customers. I don't have a catalogue as such. Look at the gallery for inspiration but let your imagination go.........
You can have a chat with George at Minuteman- he has a piece of ours in 54mm as well as a couple of smaller pieces in 20mm.
