Do you think Andy will ever release more Vietnam War sets? (1 Viewer)

Any release of WWI without Dough Boys would be a big mistake, as the biggest toy soldier market by far is the United States.

Agreed. From my perspective, this could be the most exciting range to come along in years. The possibilities boggle the mind.

If WWI and the Warbirds are released simultaneously, could you imagine the cool Aerodrome sets you could make, both Allied and German? Richtoven's Flying Circus (JG1), the Lafayette Escadrille, complete with hangers, support vehicles, ground crew, personality figures, heck even the baby Lion mascots (Whiskey and Soda), not to mention the brightly colored biplanes and triplanes! This could be really exciting!

It would be freakin' awesome (not sure I'm allowed to use that word).

All you have to do to get a feel for the bredth of different vehicles Andy could produce for WWI is check out the vehicles produced by Toy Army Workshop or Heco: Renault FT17 Light Tanks (French & U.S. Markings), Mark I through Mark IV heavy Tanks (British and Captured German Markings from Cambrei), British Whippet Tanks, German Sturmpanzerkraftwagon A7V superheavy tanks with 18 man crews, Thorneycraft Trucks, Model T Ford Pickups, Ambulances and staff cars, Rolls Royce Staff Cars, Daimler Benz Staff Cars, Rolls Royce Armored Cars (in both British Army and Royal Navy markings [Churchill, then 1st Lord of the Admiralty, was fascinated by Armored Cars]), Rolls Royce Half-Tracks. The possibilities boggle the mind.

I would love to see K and C do some ww 1 stuff.
You would have to have some horse drawn wagons and artillery
if you going to cover this conflict.

Horse drawn stuff would be de rigeur. The number of theaters of the war (Western Front, Eastern Front, Gallipoli, Syria, etc.) opens almost as many possibilities for lines about WWI as Andy has done for WWII.

I wonder if Andy can address this expansive conflict and keep up with all of the other series in present K&C production. And that's not even mentioning the other 2 new series he promised for 2007. If one of them really is the Civil War, as I guessed, he might be opening another huge can of worms. These new product lines could really put a dent in our wallets.

I agree the possibilities are endless, but that is a positive.
The variety of uniforms alone involved in ww 1,hey the scots where still wearing kilts:eek:.
I,ve got a great photo of the blackwatch heading to the front behind
their pipers [I,d love to recreate that in a diorama].
As for the wallet,I dont have one any more I had to sell it on E Bay:D

WW1 Armor Cars in polystone....... Michael

If K&C produces WWI 1/30 figures, it would be great to have a serie about the campaigns that took place in East Africa. Colonial and metropolitan forces from Germany, England, Belgium and Portugal, crewmen from the Königsberg, African warriors enforced by each nations, even airplanes... just for Louis.

Hi Guys,

Well I should've known better than to initiate a “guessing game”. The avalanche of ideas, concepts and brainwaves is totally awesome...and then some.

But remember guys, Rome wasn't built in a day and collections don't materialize instantly. At the same time pause for a moment...take a deep breath...and think seriously about what the overall market will buy...not what is your own personal “want and likes”.

Believe me I have to do this all the time. There's a ton (or two) of my own ideas that I would love to see and collect personally but — and it's a big BUT I always have to ask myself (and our marketing team) one important question...“Will it sell?”

To be successful in any business, including this one, you have to ask yourself hard questions, and make tough decisions on “what you make...how you make it and...how you sell it?”

Some of the proposals and suggestions from Forum members are downright genius...some are very good...some are O.K. and some are totally ludicrous in the extreme.

But that's O.K. too...I go through the same thought process myself all the time. Now the difficult part is selecting what are the “diamonds” and what are the “dross”.

In this great hobby and business of ours we're allowed to dream and fantasize — that's part of the fun and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Best wishes and…happy collecting!

Andy C.

Well, I think World War I is a "diamond" and I seriously hope, Andy, that you are looking at that. Based upon the interest expressed, I think World War I would do well. This is also buttressed by the fact that Britains and Old Northwest are coming out with World War I lines. I don't think two companies could make the same mistake.

Unfortunatly, I,m reading into Andys response that WW1 is not really at the top of the list, hope I,m wrong.
Gary

Methinks that Andy doth protest too much. One of our various guesses hit the mark, or he wouldn't be giving us the speech about some ideas being great, some good and some terrible, he would have just let it lie.

All i can say is AAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrggggghhhhhhhhhhh........... Somtimes its good to know and other times aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrgggghhhh how the hell Mike Neville keeps stum i do not know.

When i speak with Andy i get goose bumps (thats about developments that is not just general chat!!:D ) then myself and Mike spend all afternoon woundering where the hell is it all going to go. I know Shannon and Pete have the same issue!!

Lets just say 2007 is K&C, all other companies better be working just as hard on their plans!!!!

Tony Neville

PS by the way Andy that does not mean to not keep calling!!

So does the three new ranges include the one for UK only to be announced on 2nd December?.Anyone who is going to the show on 2nd can pick up the ticket for the evening and see what the range is there and then(i think thats right anyway-sorry if i've got it wrong!!)If the UK range is WW1 then i can imagine it would concentrate on Tommys and Germans, not sure there would be many dough boys.

I think that the exclusive serie for K&C UK will be WWI.

That conflict was essentially an european one. The USA were involved only in April 1917. It is impossible to reduce WWI to the period between 04/1917 to 11/1918 to be pleasant to the US market (cf. the earlier posts of Brad and Louis).

Accordingly, I think that K&C is not interested in that serie for North America but can see it as a strong one for the european market and a great opportunity to develop it.

Having said that, I hope that I am wrong.

Pierre.

Of course WW1 was a world wide conflict causing misery to countless millions. However i think KC WW1 would have a massive appeal in the UK and other european countries.WW1 is a conflict that caused this country a deep trauma that resounds to this day.The unrelenting horror and sacrafice of 1914-18 scarred a generation and heralded the ending of chivalry and the age of innocence. As a student of WW1 for the last twenty six years i personally would love to see the realism, skill and artistry of K&C's WW2 range brought to WW1.Having said that i would also love to see ACW for the same reasons.

I'm sure whatever the ranges are we can't lose!
