The other day I had a couple of friends over, and one of them spotted a couple of my toy soldiers. He asked if he could see them, and after talking about them for a while, he told me that he used to collect the small Waterloo Del Prado ones, but had to stop because his little brother kept breaking them!!!!!!!

He asked me where to get hem and I told him all about K@C and other companies. He told me he liked Napoleonic and Zulu figures, and the next day he told me he had bought some stuff on Ebay!!!:D

He told me he liked the K@C stuff and that he'd like to start 'Heavy Collectin' (A term he uses for me), but the figures were quite expensive!!!!! I have explained to him why they were so expensive, and he understands that, but he still thinks they're expensive, and I sort of agree!!!!!

It was great to tell someone about my Toy Soldiers, because I don't usually tell my friends because I think they'll laugh at me and stuff, but it was great to have a mate that not only dosn't mind about my collecting, but collects them too!!!!!!!:D

Does anyone else think that the Napoleonic soldiers and mostly all other single figures are quite expensive???????

What are your opinions????

Please realise I am not trying to offend anyone, because I know the figures have to be expensive because they're so great!!!!!!!!!:):):):):)

The K & C Figures Are A Bit Expencive But When You Compare Them To The Russian Figures They Are A Bargin.

How much does a Napoleonic foot figure by K&C go for? A single vintage Mignot Napoleonic figure usually goes for around 20 US dollars....I bought them in England for around 15 pounds and France for about the same in Euros. I actually think they are cheaper over here.

Also, I have a few Del Prado Napoleonic mounted figures that I bought at the London Show for 10 pounds each. They look a lot like K&C Napoleonics, but I have never compared them up close. I imagine the quality of K&C painting is far superior.

Cheers

I cannot say for sure with the Naps line as I don't collect those figures HOWEVER

I collect East of India Samurai figures and the prices for their mounted, single, 3 piece, 6 piece sets, etc, are almost the exact same. THey are 1:32 and matte just like KC.

You think toy soldiers are expensive? Start putting gas in a car or heaven forbid my Trailblazer XL!! That monster eats up 8-12 four man sets a month- EASILY!!

It's all relative- at least with toy soldiers, you have something besides carbon emissions.

Scott - expensive, affordable, or inexpensive are just personal opinions.

That opinion depends on how much an individual has and more important how they decide to spend how much to have what they want to have. I know it’s a bit esoteric but the reality of economics, the study of the transfer of wealth (money), is that everything is worth nothing. It only has value if someone is willing to place a value on it and to give up his or her personal wealth to someone else in order to possess that something.

I have a very reasonable income. To me King & Country are affordable. To someone like Bill Gates, he could afford to buy the company and have all of the company’s talents used to make his own exclusive figures and vehicles for his own personal collection at prices far beyond what I would call affordable to me. He would call it affordable to him as he has so fricken much money and perhaps his value of things is different than my or yours. He and his wife establish foundations funded by themselves personally worth billions of dollars. His version of expensive is also very different than my or yours.

So tell your friend, King & Country is worth what it is worth no more and no less. ;) :)

Expensive - All Good things in Life are expensive - my young friend.

Toy Soldiers are cheap compared to that of a Woman's favor..................

Yes - I watched the Tudors tonight :D

Hi Ron,
Glad you are back. I tried to keep up the Napoleonic theme for you whilst you were indisposed.:D :D

KV

I saw you have returned to your true French Roots - NAPOLEON Salutes You! :D

Thanks for keeping the tradition alive:

VIVE l' EMPEREUR!! ;)

Toy soldiers are too expensive. What is needed is urgent and massive funding by teh World Bank, IMF Gates Foundation and the UN to subsidize massively teh prodcution of all diverse forms of toy soldier manufacturinga t all points along teh supply chain to the tune of about 60-70%. This my firends is the only way we can hope to allevaite the dire situation thousands of toy soldier collectors suffer under. We need an urgent return to Keynsian style interventiosn. We need a Rooseveldt and a New Deal urgently. We must form a Non Governemental Body called Toy Soldier Outreach to start an international campaign. I will phone Bono and Bob Geldof uregntly. Time is of the essence. CNN mjust do a series on the crisis with photographs of poor benighted suffering collectors just waiting for UN planes loaded with toy soldiers to land.

I think this hobby is kind of expensive but I'm so used to it now I just kind of accept it.
However the majority of collectors out there who buy FOV and 21st etc must think we are mad.

Also if my mates knew how much I spent they would think I was crazy too.

That's why it's good this forum exists so we can talk about our craziness with like minded individuals.

Unfortunately talking with enthusiasts just makes us want to spend more.

James, are FOV/21ST a lot cheaper then?.
Rob

I guess on the surface they seem a little more expensive,
When you buy a vehicle you normaly get a tank plus 2 or 3
crew for the price of say 2 mounted figures.
Imo the tanks etc do give you more bang for you buck than
individual figures.

Rob

On average prices for an FOV tank range between £20 to £30
21st tanks are not really more than £20

The most expensive FOV item is the flak 88 with 5 crew. This is around £35 however the detail is incredible. The barrel recoils, the winch actually works!

I agree. I prefer the vehicles and accompanying figures as you feel you are getting a bit more.

Do you have many items from these companies then James?

I agree, but you have to take into account the time it takes to sculpt, cast, prepare and paint figures, especially of the Napoleonic period. So yes they may appear to be more expensive, but in life you get what you pay for (well mostly anyway!). I can buy one Napoleonic foot flag bearer for the price of a take away curry for my family of four.........both enjoyable.......one lasts forever, whilst the other is gone in half an hour. I know it's only a hobby and some people may think we are mad spending large amounts of money on it, but I choose to do this as opposed to wasting it down the pub every night.
