I don't have a clue as to who made this seven figure set of 18th Century Germanic figures. The facial painting is unusual, especially the eyes, as is the position of the feet on the bases. The bottom of the bases are unmarked. Anyone ever seen anything like them before?

Hi, Mike, actually, it looks like they're meant to represent either the Garde zu Fuss or the Kaiser-Alexander Garde-Grenadier Regiment from the Imperial Army. Homecast is a possibility, though I'm not familiar with any molds that would make these castings as such, though they could be modified. Are they solid?

The stance relative to the base, for example, suggests classic Britains as a starting point. That is, I can see a modeler taking a classic Britains marching infantryman, making a mold to make copies, and then adding a grenadier's head from a Prins August SYW Prussian, for example. The flag reminds me of castings from German molds like Nurnburger Meisterzinn.

It is an attractive toy soldier set, whatever its origin, congrats on your find!

Prost!

Thanks Brad. They are solid. I bought them on eBay. I do that sometimes just to see what they look like in person, but they don't really fit well with my Hiriarts. I took them to the West Coaster to sell, but, although several collectors were interested, no one ultimately bought them at their $70 selling price.

Well, I have figured this out. They are PALMETTO MINIATURES. I had a brain lock because I think of Palmetto aka Captains & Cavalry as being focused on World War I and World War II, which is largely true. These are an exception to the rule.

Hi Mike,

I was just going to mention that there is a guy selling this set on ebay and he also is selling a bunch of Capt's and Cavalry figures as well. So I think you are dead on with the id on this one.

Hi Dave,

Yes, I saw them. I am 100% sure now that these are in fact Palmetto Miniatures. The facial painting is a dead give away. I have posted some photos on MikeNick's Captains & Cavalry thread under Other Glossy Manufacturers.

Thanks.
