Philip Madoc best remembered as a German U-boat commander from the 1973 episode of Dad's Army "The Deadly Attachment" who asked his captors’ names and prompted the memorable line “Don’t tell him, Pike!” passed away earlier this week.

The flags of Walmington-on-Sea are again at half mast.

The famous scene can be viewed at:

Yes it was very sad. I had the pleasure of meeting him at a Dads Army cast reunion must be fifteen years or more ago, he was a very nice chap. Classic line in a classic show, they don't write them like that anymore. May he R.I.P

A classic Brit actor, as recently as last night I was enjoying his performance in one of my many Doctor Who dvds; "The Brain of Morbius".

Agree Rob - I was a long-term member of the UK based Dad's Army Appreciation Society. The comedic and acting talent of Dad's Army was second to none and still holds its own even today. And a great tribute to the real Home Army.

Hey mate, me too! I only lapsed membership a couple of years back. The show still remains my all time fave and as you say is despite its comedy a salute to the Home guard.

In Thetford where much of the Dad's Army series was filmed they have a sculpture of Cpt Mainwaring to honour the service of the Home Guard.

Yes indeed Oz, haven't got up there to see it yet, must make the trip as the museum and surrounding countryside are well worth the trip.
