Leadman and other Dragon 1/72 collectors. It finally looks like Dragon will release the first Sd.Kfz 251, plus a new T-34/76 with sideskirts painted in captured German markings and colours. The new Panther G with Zimmerit and Stug IV with sideskirts are now available. The big disappointment in my eyes is the release of another King Tiger for the Dragon Expo special. They seem to be trying to get an incredible amount of milage out of a tank that was never produced in that great of numbers. Still awaiting some Allied tanks to counterbalance things though.
Check out this link for pic's of the new releases:

They are nice but I would like more allied armor also. Maybe some jeeps and soft-skin vehicles. I would like to see a German prime mover towing an 88 gun. Leadmen

I have recently become a Dragon «addict». The tanks are just terrific, more realistic than some ot the larger scale ones, and there are so many versions. I agree they should make more allied tanks. On that department, apart from the T34/76, for 1/72 scale I have found old Matchbox, Aoshima Shermans and old CDC Armour. Ah, there are also very interesting allied Altaya models: Pershing, Somua, Josef Stalin, T34, well done and heavy metal but not as good as Dragon, in my opinion.
What do you think of the fantastic ( and expensive ) Cyber-Hobby releases?

I started collecting 1/72 Dragon armor and aircraft last year to complement my growing collection of Corgi aircraft. Yes, Dragon do have increadible detail and they do indeed beat most larger models in that regard - including K & C (let the pro K & C posts roll :) )

The downside with Dragon models is that they are mostly plastic and they produce so many color variations and are slow to issue new molds. However I suspect the increasing competition from FOV 1/72 and others will 'force' Dragon into bringing out ever more new molds, all good news for us Dragonites :)

Viriato I played into the Cyber Hobby releases in the beginning but quickly became frustrated with the whole release of King Tigers and other repeats and the difficulty in obtaining them from the Cyber Hobby website. The latest releases now are undesirably to me and the better releases I think are in the Warbirds. Dragon has pissed off many customers with the promise of product but to only get another King Tiger repaint,SturmTiger or Ferdinand. They seem to be way behind on other promises. They kind of remind me of some of the Conte comments that I have heard on the forum in regards to promised releases but awaiting 2 years or more and still nothing coming to the release table.
The good side is that the latest Nashorn and Hummel are very detailed inside the hull and the new Stug with side-skirts looks very good. I have to agree with Oz on the fact that the diecast content is very questionable and the weight seems to measure that they are made with more of a plastic content than the earliest models. I have really been selective in my purchases of the newer releases. I didn't bother with the Stug's with missing side-skirts and only the rails. I also passed on many of the T-34's. Also the prices have slowing been creeping up to the $17-$19 range so that has also made me be more selective.
All and all they are still a good piece for the money. I have them beside my Matchbox(the first one's released before they came to Target and Wal-Mart) and my CDC Armor tanks and they look just as good. I would recommend the Can-Do railguns though. Very nice pieces...

Hi Fullyautomatic,
There are some upcoming releases that look interesting: 2 new Jagdpanthers and 2 new Jagdpanzers. They look very good indeed. At the moment, being a Dragon newcomer, I am discovering all this new stuff and am not yet tired of repaints-I'd like to have some...20 King Tigers. But I guess variation is needed and that includes allied tanks. And choices will have to be made, as usual. For me, Corgi is a good example of how interesting allied tanks can be, not just the German ones. The best idea for special editions from Dragon seems to be the Diorarmor concept-I like the Normandy King Tiger, for instance. But for dioramas I prefer the larger scales.
I am also happy to find out that others are varying what they collect, even scale wise. My bug: not to stick to a single manufacturer, scale or historical period... I am not alone...

H. collecting,
Paulo

Hi Paulo,

I appreciate your comments. You are very definitely not alone!

Warm regards,

Pat

Paulo I do look forward to the releases you mentioned but I don't hold my breath any more for the accuracy of the announced release dates. Collectors have been suggesting Allied armor for over two years now and have gotten nothing. Playing catch up for yourself should be interesting as some of the very early releases are or seem a little difficult to find. E-bay has them from time to time but it amazes me that the prices are steadily climbing. Some dealers have some great prices on some of those earlier releases also. I should take the time to count how many KT repaints and releases there have been. Alot I know. I'm sure someone or another forum has a list with all the releases with there respective item number. I have the two different "40 release" posters somewhere but that shows the modern armor also.
Yeah my range of collecting goes from K&C,Dragon armor,Corgi planes,21st Century 32X and 1:18 planes and armor to John Deere farm tractors and toys. Throw in the odd bit of Star Wars and old GI Joe's from the 70's plus lots of other odd's and ends. Now you got me thinking where my Johnny West stuff is.

I noticed MRC advertises 1/72 armor finished. I think some is diecast? They have mostly modern armor and two British self-propelled guns-Like the abbot. Also a M-26 tank. I never seen their stuff but saw add in Squadron supplement. I collect what I like, metal- plastic- all scales and yes I found a box of GI Joes and Johnny West stuff my kids had. Leadmen
