Can any of you guys tell me a little about DragonCrest by Trophy? Is it the same company? The same painter? I've just started collecting Trophy and am still figuring out all the details of the company. As always your help is appreciated.

Hi Robert,

I searched the forum archives for previous posts on Dragon Crest and managed to find one of my posts dated 20 August 2009:

"The little that I know of the Dragon Crest Series comes from a Dragon Crest flyer issued circa 1998.

In the 1980's, Trophy has some trainee figure makers. This batch of trainess had their own unique style of finishing figures and these figures emerged slightly different from the standard Trophy figures.

Therefore, it was decided to market these figures made by the trainees under a new name of "Dragon Crest" to preserve the identity of Trophy.

Whatever became of this batch of trainess, I do not know. The Dragon Crest brand was discontinued.

Sometime later, the Dragon Crest name was re-introduced to cover some retired Trophy sets that were remade as a result of popular demand. I think many of the retired sets of the Egypt/Sudan Campaigns were remade under the Dragon Crest name.

The standard and quality set by Trophy was to be maintained in the Dragon Crest Productions."

Martyn (GICOP) posted a scanned image of the Dragon Crest flyer, but it is no longer up in the forum archives.

The flyer was issued with the Trophy January 1998 catalogue.

There are a lot more questions about subtle differences in sets and paint finish which Martyn can help as he has a vast Trophy and Dragon Crest collection.

Hope this helps for now,

Raymond.:)

Hi Robert

Glad to here that there is another fellow Trophy collector out there.

Raymond has covered the info you required very well.

Here is a picture of the flyer Raymond mentioned, unfortunately my scanner is kaput at the moment

The first Dragon Crest models were produced by Trophy trainee Pattern makers and the bases had a letter "D" stamped on the underneath which is an easy way to recognise them should any cross your collecting path.

This is an example of the mark on a very early DC figure

The DC part of Trophy was resurrected around 1999 and several Trophy ranges were relaunched under that banner i.e. Egypt and The Sudan, Boxer Rebellion and Boer War

Hope this helps

Cheers

Martyn:)

In your opinion are the Dragon Crest sets as nice as the regular Trophy sets? Are they more difficult to find and collect?

Robert
