Duchy of Tuscany Kettledrummer (1 Viewer)

I chanced upon this pavement piece which I had made up from my own castings a few years back. So I decided to cut it to fit a suitable base for my kettle drummer.

I took a critical look at this piece and decided to redo the figure, the horse and the heraldry.

Excellent kitbashing, Vic! What did you use for the drums? An old-school method was to take plastic cigar tubes and cut the bottom off for the shell of the drum, and I wondered if you used that method.

Prost!

Hi Brad,

The use of these cigar tubes for kettledrums is a good idea. Plastic and old aluminium material. However, I wasn't sure about the size of the kettledrums. I used the Historex drums as the period was 1799. I presume that these Napoleonic period spares would provide the best diameter ref for my contemorary figure.

I presume that since Historex issues the drums as one size, these earlier drums may probably have been less sophisticated. I note that kettledrums do come in two slightly different diameters to create a ba-dum sound instead of just a dum dum sound.

The figure has been redone, including new coattails.

Now that I’ve finished a big project, I decided to work on this piece for now. I completed the cobbled base and glued it to the wood base. Then I drilled n attached the horse to the base.

Late in commenting on this project, but inspiring nonetheless. Will continue to look at this project of yours.

Cheers GH. I’m hoping to make further headway with this piece before another big project overwhelms me.

Hi GH
I hope so…..After assembling the figure, I added an undercoat of red paint to visualise the tunic for errors. can see some and hope to correct them soon.

Just getting bk to this piece in between larger dioramas. I scraped off the tunic details to resculpt the lacings.
