Saw this old Western starring James Garner, Sydney Poitier and Dennis Weaver. Basically, a small Apache uprising eventually quelled by US cavalrymen. Great movie title but only mildly entertaining and the theme music is really reminiscent of Spaghetti westerns.

Always liked this movie mainly because of the dark undertones that run through so many of the characters, especially Garner's and Weaver's. -- Al

Always liked this one. Theme music too!

Since we are talking about older U.S. cavalry movies, I would like to give a shout out to Ulzana's Raid, with Burt Lancaster. A very gritty and realistic look at conflict with the Apaches..Michael

This is a terrific movie. It is very realistic, especially for the time it was made. It good benefit from restoration work as the prints you see on TV nowadays are mostly the incomplete version. There is a sequence where the cavalry Sgt. played by Richard Jaeckel and another trooper are sent off in pursuit of a wounded Apache. It follows the chase and eventual shootout where the other trooper dies. This whole scene is usually gone from the current prints, with only the end of the scene where Jaeckel returns alone to report success, shown. I would love to see a cleaned up and restored print. Hard to find a better US Cavalry vs Indian movie. -- Al

Enjoyed both movies long ago. James Garner and Lancaster were always favorites. Chris
