Ok fellas:

I have been eyeing up some figures from this line. I also just got the winter catalog this weekend which shows those really nice street facades. Looking for some thoughts on the following two questions:

I am working on a large diorama to showcase my current conflict (ie Iraq) collection. What do you think of

a.) The figures 22004, 005 and 006- the indian tailor, beggar and woman figures as representative of modern Iraqi civilians. I have held off so far since I really feel these people look more hindu than muslim- which is what WB was intending right?? ^&grin^&grin

b.) the street facade pieces being used as modern Iraqi buildings? I really like them and I think the street facade would look really nice in particular. I like the detail of the graffitti on the wall- I think that was a clever move on WB's part.

I appreciate all comments.

Chris, you know what I say? Go for it, if it looks good to you and fits in with your plans then do it. I also look at it as how many historians will be really viewing my collection? Most "viewers" probably wouldn't even give it a second thought.

Four Feathers has recently announced some new Arab figures but I thought they would look good mixed in with the Britains buildings. I still may pick these up after I have recovered my budget when the Durbar stuff is released.

Hi Chris,

The Street scenes/facades will work fine for the Iraq display. The building types are similar so it will be good even with the wrong language written on them. as for the tailor and other figures I would say ok with the taylor but no to the other two they look too Hindu/British Raj for what you want. Of course they might work for folks who dont know the difference. I would also say get some of the four feathers sets in Matte because they are more in line with what the locals in Iraq look like.

Sounds like a nice long term project to me, should be fun to see when its complete.

Dave

PS Got your note and will reply soon

that has always been my outlook on these types of dilemmas as well. I plan on obtaining one (or several if my clients would get around to paying me ^&grin^&grin) of the Secundra bagh wall sections (getting scarce- Victoria's cross collection). I think they look really cool and could work quite well for modern.

I think so too Chris and that is the beauty of many countries in Europe, Africa, Asia etc... One building can be used across 300-400 hundred years or more and not look out of place in the dio. Unfortunately in my North American travels things seem less likely to be preserved, so I wonder if we will ever get to that level of historical buildings/structures.

Thanks for the heads up Chris, I'd missed those buildings, as Durbar isn't one of my lines, but they look excellent, particularly the Spice shop.
Got a Mogue BHD feel to the architecture. Me thinks I'll have to get these.

Not sure if the figures would fit for Iraq (in my admittedly limited knowledge), I'd have thought the turbans on the tailor and begger might have fitted better in an Afghan scene rather than Iraq.

Does anyone know if these buildings have "floors" on the second stories?? It would be neat to place spectators (for the Durbar) or snipers, etc on the second floors- any ideas??

Thanks!!

Hi Chris,

I have to say that this is an interesting question. Snipers at the Durbar is certainly not the headline I was expecting...{sm2}

I think they have a partial floor on the second story so they can be easily illuminated in a display case. But I am only guessing here so I will ask Richard.

I'll let you know.

Dave

Some revisionist history here sir, that information was locked and sealed away for the past century and a half. {sm4}

Love to hear what Richard has to say.

I believe they do Chris, let me have a poke around as I am sure I remember seeing a photo of the buildings with figures on the second storey.

Hey Sandor-

thanks for the tip, I actually hadn't thought of that though that is a good idea. Price is easier to swallow but those JG Facades are really thin- not sure I want something that skinny.

Thanks again bud!! Good thinking!!

John: I think the JG buildings work out well with the balconies and flat roof tops to place civilians with my Marlborough Durbar. There are more building photos in my Album 7 if that helps.

They say Texans do it bigger and you my friend are doing it bigger than any Texan I know- that is an incredible display. I'd love to swing by your house and check out your collection- that has to be an amazing sight to behold!!

Hi Chris,

I have enjoyed the opportunity to "swing by Tommy's place" and see his collection up close and personal. If you ever have the opportunity to do so, take advantage of it. You are more correct than you know. It is truly an "amazing sight to behold!" {bravo}}

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :smile2:

Thank you very much Tommy and Pat for the excellent referral. I have a feeling it would be sensory overload.

Picked up my Secundra Bagh wall sections last night..... The Baghdad Durbar 2003 is progressing.....................:)
