My new wife bought me a great big glass display cabinet with lighting and a mirror backdrop.:) At first I thought YEAH! Now I can buy more soldiers. Then she further explained it was so I could move my collection in the dining room cabinet so she could reclaim it for dishes. I told her it wasn't really a present for me then it was more for her and she still owed me a present. I'm now getting a second cabinet all for me and the new soldiers I'm getting for Christmas. :D I'm newly married and I'll let her reclaim a little of the house for girlie things so long as I don't loose any cabinet space. Compromise and happiness.

Sage, if you're newly married and your main focus is getting more toy soldiers and new display cabinets maybe you should reconsider your priorities.

Fred

Congrats on finding an understanding and compromising wife.:)

Your new show cases sound great. I am in the process of ordering some cases very similar to the description you gave of your cases for my third floor project. The contractor is coming Thursday to hopefully get the ball rolling. My wife wants all of my toys on the third floor and out of her living room, dining room and the two guest rooms. My wife also wants to girlie up the rest of the house (she wants light blue silk wall covering in the dining room! - I guess the soldiers would clash).

Louis - That's why you really need to get into Napoleonics. The blue uniforms would fit perfectly with light blue silk wall coverings

Personally, I'm trying to get the wife hooked on Splinter Pattern curtains, in order to co-ordinate a little.

I thought of Oak Leaf pattern cushion covers, but they're sooo last season.

I suggested olive green couches, khaki rugs and Panzer Gray curtins, but so far no luck.

Wraith,
Classic, laugh out loud post by you if ever there was one.........reminds me of a comical story concerning a wargaming convention my cousin and I attended a couple of years ago.

His wife was all cheesed off at him as he was to return home on Saturday but decided to stay one more day and she was giving it to him with both barrels on his cellphone as a result Saturday morning during breakfast.

He ended the call and said his wife was not pleased at his decision to stay another day and the wife of the couple he and I were having breakfast with said "You'd better get her a nice romantic present here in Lancaster to take home and smooth things over with", to which he replied "No problem, I've got my eye on a nice pair of Fallschrimjager ear rings", to which the woman said "That doesn't sound very romantic" and he fired back "She'll love them, they are dressed in late war splinter pattern camo".................

You guys are killing me. I just had the gf move in more or less and there has been little time for soldiers unless we are at the shop. She does go to the train meets with me and will possibly be at the west coaster. I miss painting the figures. Interesting trade off. Painting figures and being lonely,or not being lonely and not painting figures:confused: Still this week I built a small train layout for my sister. The gf even bought some trees for the layout.:)
The sister type loves the layout and is happily running trains for Christmas.
I on the other hand have bought a present for myself and that was a 200 figure ACW display I had set up at the shop:)

Man I miss having a girlfriend...I've been married for 15 years since I was 22...you guys are bringing back old memories..........

WELLINGTON

Maybe if you brought home a splinter pattern garder...that might work..but...then again she might get the wrong idea like you were interrested or something.....

Sage and Vampire ....it's ludicrous that you allow your hobbies to come before your aficionada's ... heavens to betsy -- which do you value more?

Nevertheless, my current quest is for some toy soilders for my real soilder to give him as a christmas present... where would you propose I look for army, navy and marines like those of the present day? My funds are limited.

Welcome to the forum Irisheyes. :) You should have some fun here. I am glad to see you in the mix. After all the forum is kinda like a can of mixed nuts.

Now I think as an "old salt" on the forum, not the oldest, but I have been here for a while (both on the forum and on earth), you might need to understand your priorities. Heavens sake, women come and women go, but toy soldiers remain as always. They never demand to go shopping. They never have a "head ache" at convient times. They never leave their underwear drying on the shower rod. Oh yeah, I forgot, they take breath don't they. Forget what I said, women come first...or doooo they???

If on a limited budget, look for Forces of Valor. They are reasonably priced, have soldiers of the current time, and are found in Walmat and Target and are readily available on the web. Go for the 1/32 scale size or the 1/72 scale size if space is a real issue. Just look on ebay or google ("forces of valor", "diecast") and pick a dealer. Best of luck.:)

I aint touching that one. I'll just slink off to the dawghouse.

Love the splinter camo idea! It wont work, but I like it!

My wife has been pretty tolerant over the last 5-6 years.
I have some wonderful prints in the family room, one 6 foot tall glass case, too narrow but better than nothing and 5 GORILLA industrial shelf units stuffed to the max in the garage/wargame room. Most of the Garage is taken over by my insanities so I cant really complain, but will anyway.

Now, The glass case was taken over 7-8 years ago. I was rotating displays, removed all the troops, cleaned all the glass and mirrors, and like a fool left it until the next day after work. I came home the next day to find it stuffed with barbies , beanie babies and Precious Moments.Got it back maybe 2 years ago.

So, if I understand you, you are mad because she found your stash of Beanie Babies, Barbies, and Precious Moments. How could you find time to collect anything else?:D Michael

If you want something a little more collectible than Forces of Valor, but still affordable, try Frontline or Figarti, both of whom make present day U.S. Forces at reasonable prices.

I'm glad for your suggestions. Do you know of any stores in the SF area? Near the presidio would be the most useful.
