eBay abolishing paper transactions (1 Viewer)

There is a "grace period" I think through the end of the year.

I'm just going to post my shop number on my listings letting people know that they can call to make payment arrangements.

The number of money orders I receive now-a-days is so small compared to a few years ago.

Yeah, I think MO's are a pain, especially since you have to pay for them. It's always a little irritating when I miss that detail in the auction listing, win, and then see that the seller accepts only money orders, or cashier's checks (even worse, becasue a bank will usually charge several dollars' fee to issue one).

Prost!

Maybe you know this Jim but you do not have to link Paypal to your bank account. I link mine to a virtual credit card with a limit I set for each transaction. They can hack away but they will get nothing but a rejected card. It couldn't be more secure. Also, if for some reason you want to use a checking account, simply create one specific for such purposes and don't keep much in it. I still prefer the double protection of the paypal / virtual card though.

Well - I did know about linking my PayPal account to a separate checking account - that's what I did. So when my PayPal acct. got cracked they tried to take money I didn't have.. but the bank still issued an overdraft penalty. They cleared it up once, then one more time, but then said no more...

I don't know anything about a virtual credit card tho.. but that would only help with buying and not selling..

Thx!

Forget the Money Order nonsense, I won about 20 auctions last month, paid

for 19 no problem in minutes. Didn't look close, and got stuck with one Money

Order deal, what a pain. Had to go stand in line at the P.O. buy a Money

Order, send it certified mail (for proof of delivery) cost an extra $5-6 plus

say $100 for my time! Even with the Paypal fees, its much better.

Unless its the Buy of a Lifetime......or I'm half asleep, if they don't take

Paypal I'm just not interested.

Exactly. If I have to get an MO, I buy them at the grocery store, which means driving over there, taking the envelope and dropping it at the post office then, too. On top of that, having to buy the d****d thing!

I don't mind writing a check, because I can do all of that sitting at my desk (write it, print the envelope, and give it to the postman). And yes, I'm with you, PayPal is the most convenient, and it seems to me that around 4 months ago or so, they changed something in their process-perhaps a stronger guarantee of the funds to the seller?-and I saw sellers responding immediately, instead of after 3-5 business days, when the EFT should have cleared. I don't know-maybe the Fed changed its regs on funds availability, and EFTs are given immediate availabilty. But in any case, I usually see a message back from the sender shortly after making PayPal payment, that he's sending the item.

No, my issue with eBay's policy, as I said, is just that I don't like someone saying this is what you must do, it rubs me the wrong way. But it's their site, they can do what they want. I don't think there'll be an exodus, after all.

Prost!

Once you make a payment via Paypal, as long as it is not by check (to Paypal) the item should ship.

Any transfer from your credit card (which I do for protection) or your checking account is instant, and cannot be reversed so the seller should ship your item.

I ship items paid for by Paypal no later then next day. I had one clown holding my item while the funds cleared his bank.......and wouldn't you know it he was the same guy that shipped my item 1st class no insurance.....when I paid for Priority Insured.

After 10 years on Ebay, and nearly as long on Paypal I recommend both for
anyone thinking of selling anything.

With a minimum amount of effort, it is safe, and fun.

Can you have a problem, non-paying bidder, misrepresented item, yes. Is it
the norm......no.

As I have stated many times before, I am more then willing to answer any questions, and offer advice to any Forum member considering using Ebay or
Paypal.

Several members have contacted me, and I have always given my best advice.

And before anyone starts.....I do this as a service to assist other collectors, as many have assisted me with questions.

No Charge.:)

Yes I thought your issue was only with respect to buying. A virtual card is great for that.
