eBay Deadbeats (1 Viewer)

Reminds me of the King Country M3 Tank & figures I bought. The guy threw them loose in a box with no packing what so ever. Needless to say the piece was junk when I received. Some people are too stupid to breath.

And you are not concerned about your profit? Well, you could rent some
retail space in some strip mall and sit there 14 hours a day and deal with all
the business laws such as taxes, insurance, theft inherent in such an
enterprise.

Well I run a web based business and do deal with taxes, insurance, and a few instances of theft from credit card fraud. Guess I am lucky that I can sit in my backyard and not a store 14 hours a day :)

I do not make a living on eBay, but do have an issue with people backing out of auctions after they have won the item. Especially after I took the time to list the item (my time is valuable), payed the listing fees, and final value fees :)

I don't know what to say? Ebay does take non-paying bidders seriously and
they do take actions against them. You usually have to wait 7 days before you file a claim. At that time you are free to re-list the item and you will be given credit for your selling fees. Ebay will take action against the non-paying bidder and if they do it again they will be suspended or terminated from using ebay.

Ebay is doing a better job with this, in the past I have had non-paying bidders leave me negitive feedback, they cannot do that any longer. I have also found the number of non-paying bidders to be greatly reduced with the new rules. I have not had one for several years now.

Reguarding "Shill Bidding" I know a lot of people are concerned with that. A fellow was just convicted of 5 counts of "Shill Bidding" in England and could receive a 5 year & I believe a 50,000 pound fine. It seems he simply obtained a second ebay account using the same address & credit card number and was bidding on his own items when he felt they were selling too cheaply.
Someone bidding on a van he was selling got suspicious and reported him to ebay. They found he had bid 5 times on his own items so they reported it to British Police.

His defense......."I didn't know that was illegal"

Clarence Darrow......he wasn't!

Another deadbeat strikes. I was Just stiffed again (371.00). I will be glad to pass along his user name to those who are interested. Hopefully they will never be able to bid on another toy soldier. I'm just about done with eBay. Like I stated before, I feel for those trying to eek out a living on this site. It's a shame the way sellers are treated by them. I can not think of another business that can survive abusing the people (sellers) who keep them in business like this. The seller has no ability to address these issues. ebay must have so many complaints about these deadbeats that if they allowed negative feedback to be left about them no one would list anything on their site.

I have never received a "no pay" bid...

but I did receive a "slow pay" bid that won recently...

I waited the 7 days with no response from the winner and after trying to contact him several times to "remind" them...

I gave up and opened a "claim" against them...

The way I understood the explanation was that they would not necessarily be suspended from future bidding or terminated from using Ebay from this...

or even if it happened a second time or third time...

I got the feeling it was more like 6-8 strikes and then they would block him...

He did pay...he is a nice guy...I think he told me his computer had crashed...so there wasn't too much he could do...I mean not really his fault in a way...

It just seems to me that if they commit to buy...

I think Ebay should automatically debit their Paypal account and make them take the item they bid on...

but on the other hand...my local newspaper "for sale" section wouldn't...

Ebay doesn't seem to be really concerned with any "contractual obligations"...

I was disappointed with their effort...

Who can figure human nature? I have found that once a claim is filed, most
often all the computer "issues" are suddenly resolved and payment is made.:D

Who knows how many "strikes" ebay considers too many.....and due to privacy you will not be informed what they do to this buyer.....as you correctly pointed out "ebay" is really interested in $$$$ no matter where it comes from.

Even though Ebay purchased Paypal they seem to have two different philosophys. Ebay is mainly interested in money, Paypal is more interested in customer service so they will Not pull funds from a customers bank account. In this situation, since you had not been paid, Paypal would have no recourse to attach the buyers account.

Lets hope Paypal remains independent, their customer service if far superior to ebay.

I have had good phone service from both Ebay and Paypal...

especially Paypal...

their representatives both seem eager to help...

once I started looking at my monthly account bills from Ebay...

coupled with the Paypal commissions being taken from my sales...

I gave up...

I bought 600 shares of Ebay...

I wish I had sold it when it got to 28...

it's back to 22 and change now...

but this company does make money and with a PE of 12...it seems like a good buy...

by the way...they also own a portion of Skype.

Michael:

Years ago I was invited to invest in Ebay when it first offered shares:rolleyes: I was involved with other things at the time and I declined....
not really one of my better moves! So don't feel too bad.

Now that Meg is gone it is probably a good investment (although their customer service and business plan needs a bit of tweaking) You should probably take your stake up to 1000 and sit on it for awhile and you will probably do quite well!:)

In the old days (when splits were popular) 100 shares could easily turn into 1000 in a few years, and from there the sky is the limit........not as easy to do in todays market.:)

I notice that ebay's cut is around 10%-12% which could add up if you have a productive month!:D They say it takes money to make money......and they of course are correct!:)

I have had several auctions end with the high bidder not paying. What is funny though is that when I re-listed them they actually ended at a higher price than the first time. It still is a pain though waiting to finally find out if the buyer is going to pay or not.
