I don't think prices for the "good" pieces have gone down. And they do show up on occasion on e-bay. I have also been told "good luck finding that one" but if you look hard enough for long enough and can jump at a good opportunity, the rare pieces can be acquired.

I have sold some quite rare early pieces lately and have been very happy with the return. Also, the early pieces are out there, you just have to want to pay for them or get lucky. AND, you will find that some of the "early" collectors may have bought 1, 2 or 10 of each set! No names will be mentioned. (I am not one of them).

Pieces (rare ones) that I sell are from my own collection that I either don't want anymore or happen to pick up more than one while buying other collections, etc.

I think it is both - ECONOMY - Collectors are asking themselves do I want to continue with this range and cash for other priorities and COLLECTION CORRECTION ... Change/Space/Interest - I lump together because I myself have sold things because of space concerns - change in collecting direction - change of collecting interest.

i have to agree with ron,i buy as well as sell on ebay.i buy like most to obtain items i require and i sell items i no longer require sometimes i make a profit, sometimes i brake even but with ebay / paypal fees most of the time i make a loss, i do this not as a dealer but as a collector just feeding my own habbit

that's a reasonable assumption, but speaking as a data point (been collecting since '97) that's not how it is. My stuff is in 2 categories...the stuff I which I am quite fond of, and the stuff which I am so-so on. If you call the former the Primary Collection, I display it, rotate it back into storage with other Primary stuff coming out, have fun with it, & never sell it, etc.

The Secondary Collection is stuff I bought & just sits in storage as it was when it first came home. These are things I thought would work into my dioramas/displays, but it just never happened for one reason or another. They just sit there & I gradually sell them at a snail's pace for lack of discipline of going through the Ebay process.

First I have to take pics, then package it, take it to the Post Office to calculate weight/postage, bring it back, unpack it to take another picture view that a customer wants to see, then repack it, take it back to post office to mail, wait in line for a clerk, etc.

Hopefully not jumping ship. K&C is the only large volume producer and whether people like them or not, it is the mainstay of the industry. HB, Gunn, CS and Figarti have all gone to 1/30 so their pieces will go with K&C. And K&C has been upgrading their quality. The HB, Gunn, CS and Figarti production runs are small so I don't think they will replace K&C anytime soon.

I doubt very much they are the only large volume producer.

Sorry. I was referring to only WW2 with CS, HB, Figarti and now Gunn. These companies seem to do runs of 100 - 300. And I was not including 21st Century, Dragon or FOV as direct competition.

Ah yes I would agree there, I was thinking in general merchandise. Sorry jumped the gun
