[h=3]Hi there, the model is packed well and ready to go. Before I send it did you want it fully insured? I’ve been quoted an additional £19. If you want to go for it I will invoice you for this. Please let me know and I will get it arranged. Thanks.

I offered a UK ebayer a price for a T Gunn plane, which they accepted, so i paid and today i get the above email, i think this is not on, he quoted postage, was cheap, but i made an offer and he accepted. Now wants more money. I have told him no, we agreed a price and that was it. Any damage is the senders responsibility and not the person receiving the item, as claims are made by the sender.

Just beware guys.

Looks like an offer for insurance, if you want it, and I would assume he'd pass proceeds of any insurance claims onto you. Breakages in transit are becoming a more common issue I suspect. A dealer can claim damage losses via tax in need, but not so easy for private sellers.

This is a tough one but I looked at the eBay item description which states the following…

“I always try to do combined postage wherever possible, please message me before paying if you are buying multiple items and I will send an amended invoice if at all possible. If you would like the carriage insured please message me so I can quote. I have not put inspired as standard as this seems to put some people off buying the item because of the increased shipping costs”.

Personally, I would pay the insurance fee just in case. Nice warbird pickup so enjoy viewing it in your collection!

Whenever I ship an expensive/delicate item via Ebay, I take out insurance on my own; if the buyer receives it and it's damaged, if we can't work out a deal regarding partial refund/discount on a future purchase and he wants to send it back for a refund, then the insurance kicks in via a claim submitted by myself.

I shipped it, I put in the claim, any payout goes to me, not sure why a seller would ask a buyer if they want insurance, that makes no sense.

When you post something in the UK it is insured upto a certain amount and then you can pay extra to insure items that are over that amount, i do sell on ebay as well and have done this and the cost for the price i paid for the T Gunn set [i checked] is just over 25% of the £19 he wanted to charge me. Plus the person who receives the parcel cannot make a claim against the PO, it has to be the sender. I am also not happy with insuring something which i have not seen or indeed packed, he could just have put a label on the box, with no outer packing etc. He also only put £4 for the cost of the postage, i should have known, as it was so cheap, postage i mean.

Anyway cancelled transaction, so you live and learn.

Plenty more great sets out there for my cash.

Similar insurance and pricing here with Australia Post, I did wonder about the extra 19 pounds, I guess it just wasn't worth the extra money/risk for you to proceed.
