Have a question-

How are you guys displaying these figures- if you are doing a diorama. I have a pretty good layout for what I want to do with them, just looking for ideas from other collectors. It seems to me, that putting them out in front of the Facade might be kind of unusual as it might be difficult to believe they were wrapping mummies outside in the hot desert sun. Anyone have any thoughts here??

Thanks
CC

I have put them in front and they look great....I have 3 scenes with this line.

Mummies left outside used to be very common in ancient Egypt. In the first kingdoms before mummification became the art form it is the priest would leave bodies outside to dry them out. It was a kind of human beef jerky thing. Then later on you have mass graveyards like apartments. If a family could not pay the rent for the family plot then out they went. And lastly lets not forget grave robbers. They’d toss the bodies out to get to the gold inside. Also sometimes people where wrapped in there jewels so you had to take them outside in the moonlight to see if they where wearing anything. Well that’s if the priest didn’t pocket them for himself before he wrapped the body.I hope this help you out.

Kind of like "Stepping into a slim jim!!" :D:D

Love that quote- you know, I do believe I have heard that while watching some shows too. Thanks for the input fellas- I just wanted to make sure I was in the correct ballpark.

I also remember reading that they would use various oils and emulsifiers to counteract the stench of the decomposing corpse.

I really like this line (EGYPT)...I bought all the first releases and have made one cabinet dedicated to them...I have been to Egypt and seen all there was to see.....I wish I had the money and space to collect more...but that has been reserved for my beloved Napoleonics...

TEE HEE! I’m glad you liked that. If you want some extra info and diorama inspiration on Egypt there is always the history and discovery channel and believe it or not I’ve found lots of great videos and DVD’s at my local library too.

Oh! And by the way it is a really great line. I would really love to see more of it as well. I love all subjects up till WWI but my real love is for the ancient world, Greeks, Romans, Egyptians and the like. I would love to see a line for Alexander the great.

As soon as I get my computer situation resolved - I will post some photos of my Napoleon Takes Egypt Diorama. Wellington - you will love it :D

I have the Egypt K&C Diorama things - with French Troops guarding the tomb.

I find myself increasingly drawn to the ancient world- this year will see a much bigger change in what I buy- first time in 10 years that most of my money is going towards ancients- in particular, Romans this year.

Thanks so much for the great info. Romans are a wonderful subject, there are so many great diorama possibilities. I would also love to see that Napoleonic diorama as well. I love to see everyone’s photos. It’s great to see everyone ideas on how to set stuff up.

You have a lot of situations to get resolved sir, least of all the computer ones :D:D:D Cheap shot, I know.

Those Egyptian dio pieces are one of the great selling points of the entire line- the line was very well thought out, giving pieces to aspects of the Egyptian culture- the great architecture, the mystery surrounding the mumification process and of course, Egypt isn't complete without Cleo's wooing of the leader of the Roman Empire. It's just a great great line- the architecture pieces work very well for a number of ranges like the Naps and somewhat with the EA/AK and SF lines (AE21- the scaffolding set).

It shows how creative the company is outside of WW2 or "War" themes items- much like they do with SOHK and the Dickens lines. I know I am out of my mind but I would love to see an "ancient Mayan/ Aztec" line with perhaps a temple facade- South American culture is just as fascinating and very very colorful.Maybe this could blossom into a line of "conquistidors" and giving some of the Spanish explorers a go. Even a "Viking" settlement, something celebrating Nordic culture not just for their "rape and pillage" stereotype but something showing them at peace- fishing, singing, drinking, etc- course, I guess that's what led to the Pillaging and the Plundering.:D

I have Obama issues thats for sure !

Anyway on Toy Soldiers - I think these Egyptian Figures are great and the lots of applications with all the the different ranges. I hope we can get some WWI Desert German & Turkish Soldiers that would be cool.
