Saturday, our son was dispatched to a wildland fire in the San Bernadino National Forest, California as part of an interagency incident management team. The fire has burned 8600 acres and was 7 pct contained as of 10 minutes ago. The cause . . . a gender reveal party where an appropriately colored pyrotechnic was ignited in 3-foot tall dead grass in 106 degree (F) weather with no means of control other than water in plastic bottles. And this was in the middle of a high fire danger alert. It kinda makes me wonder just how stupid people can be.

Was just watching the story on the news. Best of luck to your son, Al. Prayers to him and all those impacted by the fire.

My goodness, Al! The stupidity of some people is terrifying.:redface2: I hope your son and the other firefighters stay safe.

Reported on the news in the UK, just crazy:mad:

Hope you and your son stay safe Al

If it were just basic stupidity, that would be bad enough but there is an intense element of narcissism in our society. Many people are so self absorbed in their own lives that it is frightening. They are probably bewildered as to why people are angry at them. It's not their fault. They are having a baby. They find themselves the most interesting people in the world. They can't be inconvenienced by fire safety or others when celebrating themselves.

Well, enough California voters return administrations to office, that have neglected to take steps to prevent the fires that naturally occur, because they believe those steps to be damaging to the environment. The people who set off the fireworks made a foolish decision, but so did a majority of California's voters, and repeatedly so.

Hate to say this, but a lot of people live their lives without thinking. Sometimes I think we make laws to keep the masses from hurting themselves.

Very true observation. When individual responsibility is no longer generally taught as a value, then that's what we get.
