" I see a dark sail, on the horizon, set under a black cloud, that hides the sun"

My apoligies to Ian Anderson but I am inspired!

Emhar Vikings are up at several sites for future releases and look very , very good.Listed as 1/32 , my fingers are crossed they won't be as scrawny as Emhars 1/35 WW1 Artillery and infantry sets .Hoping they are a reasonable match in size for all the Conte Plastics I painted.

The poses look just great, I really like the ones swinging the long handled Danish ax, and the archer. Theres even one crouching with a thrusting spear, looks like he's trying to find a hole in a shield wall.Look good for conversions too for the most part.
Not too many shieldwall type poses, more like raiders which is fine.If decent in size I can convert a few and get that shield in front of them where it belongs!

Keeping my Fingers crossed!

Maybe get some of El Mansoo's cavalry to attack them on the beach,

True Dark ages 54mm cavalry would be fantastic if they were Normans or Carolingians, Moors, well, okay.I could have my arm twisted and paint some if there were any available.I know theres a very few Jecsan recasts which are pretty good from the images but not enough poses for me to start an army.

Fubar, I,m sure they will be 1-35. I bought the Emhar WW1 hopeing they would be the 1-32 as advertized. But alas, 1-35.
Just a few weeks ago I bought a plastic German soldier with a movie camera. Contacted the seller and he stated "yes, 1-32 in size, and that it was cast from a mold found in England.
I won it and sure enough it was 1-35, just as I thought any thing from the UK is.
Arn"t Airfix listed as 1-32, when they too are 1-35th.
Gary

Gary: I am doing some Airfix multipose figures and they are 54mm or 1/32 scale. I also used some of their weapons on improving FOV guys. The Airfix weapons seemed small on some San Diego conversions. I think Call to Arms figures are more 35mm then 32 as advertised. John

Once again Fubar...excellent diorama. My compliments.

Thanks for the compliment deskdesk.I do appreciate the kind words.
Leadmen, I'm calling you Sunday to shoot the bull.
Guys I will be distraught and depressed if Emhars Vikings are 1/35.Being advertised as 1/32 and I am hoping the WW1 1/35 sets were to compliment their WW1 armor kits and this batch of my plastic ancestors will come close enough to Conte.I may have to hot glue them on to a thick fender washer and terrain it but thats no big deal.
By the way, The Conte Viking ship is simply AWESOME.Time to cut wood and glass for a case.

Fubar,

Unbelievable Diorama! And as far as our ancestors are concerned, I certainly hve some Viking blood, both on the Scottish side (centuries of raiding) and on the Italian side. My name, Badolato, is from the City in Italy my ancestors are from. The City Badolato was founded by the Normans (Norsemen who conquired a big portion of France) who conquered the entire southern half of Italy. Badolato is known for its northern european style fortifications, obviously built by these Normans. It might explain why this City in Southern Italy is full of pale skinned, blond and red headed, blue eyed "Italians" (I have extremely pale skin and blue eyes, but I got dark hair -- the blue eyes and pale spin could come from either the Norman conquerors or my Scottish Granny, who knows).

Thanks guys for the high praise! If Iwas more computer savy I would do a webpage but alas I am computer challenged.Troops seldom seen by anyone at all so it is nice to hear that my efforts are appreciated by others with the same intersts /obsessions.
Fishhead, Yes I have seen those before, very worthy for warriors standing on the Dragonship. Have to lose the wings on the helmets but look like they would be a joy to paint.
There are some Cherila, marx and Jecsan 60mm guys sets that have some worthy figures, a little converting{ mostly horned helmets} about 1/2 or so are useful.
Louis, Always been drawn to the Norse, even when I was little before I even knew really who they were or my own national origins.
I think I was 4 years old when " THE VIKINGS " was on TV one night and I was amazed.Sisters take after my dad, both fair and red or blonde hair.I took after my Mom who was of Spanish And English decent. I'm dark haired , blue eyed and when I used to work outside more would tan very dark.Ill tempered too when provoked. Had a lady that runs a Celtic shop take one look at me and tell me I was a Berserk.Wierd I thought since we had hardly spoken.I took her mystical speculations with a grain of salt.Berserk?Well, thats been true in my youth but age has mellowed me !

Duplicating same theme in 2 different scale.Have a huge 1066 collection in 28mm scale. Truley mad as a hatter but I love painting different warriors.Lots more fun than endless rows of the same uniform.
Pic for fun,Shannon and Peter, delete them if i get too carried away. It's been said of me.

Wow!!!! The Battle of Hastings brought to life! Unbelievable. If I had your talent I would seriously consider trying to work with Andy. Do you speak any Chinese?

You know what, if I had your talent I would learn Chinese and go beat down Andy's door!

Fubar: That picture is fanastic! Wish I was there to see it when you had it set up. I still got pics of the huge 15mm Napoleonic set up I saw when I visited you. It is truly amazing to see all the work and creativity that is involved in the dioramas. If I paint 20 guys I feel I did alot. Guess I am another blue eyed Italian although my brother had dark eyes and hair and my sister blond and blue eyes. Have Nordic blood after my mom who was Norweigan. I should go to west coast show in March but already in hock now. Hope I don't look too long at Conte's new Viking Ship or it will end up in the middle of dining room table-- that will knock her socks off. Leadmen

Thanks Leadmen, Geez I had 5,000 + painted Napoleonics and not a picture saved.15mm Waterloo was quite a spectacle, but once the old gang fell apart the troops sat around for years.Tiny little stands, backbreaker to play with but oh the masses were amazing.
Conte Viking ship is quite large, will take up most of your dining room table and you will never hear the end of it from the boss.

Louis, My best work was done 3-5 years ago on the 28mm Ancients and dark ages troops.I'm not that talented, just stubborn and I guess have a killer work ethic{ thanks dad!} , plus lots of trial and error over the years.Hey, If 100 Roman Legionnaries look good , how about 1,000!My 54mm has taken over, Can't work like I used to,Always feel rushed, I get to the good enough for me point and thats that.
28mm troops are a chore for me anymore and I have done few save some LOTR figures in the last few years.I don't think I have anything to offer Andy that isn't already out there.KC are superb and I think I am happy to let his workers in Hong Kong make a living. They are better painters than me!

One more 28mm dark ages viking image.

I think you underestimate your talent, although I agree with you that there is no substitute for a good work ethic. Just for the record, I was admiring your talent in designing these brilliant dioramas. I wasn't suggesting you paint for K&C, but that you join the design team.

Louis, If I knew who, when, and how to join any team involved in Figure production I would . I was just kidding about the painting, I knew you were not suggesting I join the production painting line!

No formal training, just good with my hands I guess . I did comission some troops in 54mm and the masters have arrived. Step 1 complete. Master and production molds through some folks I know in the Portland Area who are pro moldmakers. As far as kits go, those will be done. Painted boxed sets? Probably not. Just don't have the contacts. Polyresin and metal kits for modelers.I have no experiance in business, production and am kind of stumbling along as I go.Labor of love mostly, I needed particular troops for Napoleonic theme, few of which are available so i had the first 10 I wanted sculpted for me. Honing my sculpting skills will take far too long.

More 1066!
