as each day goes by...
these channels are becoming more and more unwatchable...
trying to fill 24 hours of sports...with no sports is pretty hard to do...
there is nothing to talk about...
no NBA...no MLB...no NFL...no March Madness...
nothing...
everything is getting cancelled...
even the PGA...which is about the most non contact sport you can imagine...
so in coming days...
I wonder when I tune into these channels...
what will their analysts and hosts be talking about...
ESPN, Fox Sports, Golf and NFL Network...have become pointless

you can only replay old Superbowls for so long...

It looks like I will be rewatching replays of Mets and Yankees games from yesteryear. Not optimal but better than nothing.

My son is a big UFC fan and apparently those events (there is one every week) will go on as planned but with no fans.

As enticing as it can be to sit for hours and watch sports, it is ultimately an enoromous waste of time. One net result might be that sports addicts will find they can survive without it.

Looking at the Yankee station, their lineup of games looks more exciting than the Mets’ ones. Later today, they have David Cone’s perfect game and the game where the Yankees played the Orioles after attending Thurman Munson’s funeral.

I suppose watching sports is a waste of time but taking our minds at what’s going on around us is therapeutic.

I think they are still going to have Nascar...
which i have never been a fan of...
but without scores...games...etc...
these analysts and hosts are gonna struggle to find material...

They will do what CNN, Fox News etc. are doing. Build on conjecture when it comes to the return of the actual games while trying to guess who does and does not have the virus.

Nowadays, to be a news agency (even a sports one) you don’t need facts or even actual events to remain on air. Just spout things that keep people interested, no need to include the truth.

Jason...
you're right...
this is what they do to a great extent anyway...
still...
it's gonna take a lot of conjecture and imagination to fill up those 24 hours a day...
whatever BS they fill those slots with...
it's gonna be a poor excuse of info for sport's junkies...

Mike:

Great point. It is the true sports junkies that will grow tired of the analysis and the recaps.

On a side note, if the new NFL CBA fails to pass they will all have something to talk about for the next 3 months.

Sports documentaries are my go to now.

Watching the formula 1 show on netflix this morning. It’s quite good actually and I was never a big auto racing guy

I’m going back and watching movies and documentaries that I had recorded.

Same here, Brad.
Last I heard you can't get infected from NetFlix, Amazon Prime or Hulu ... ... so many movies and documentaries on that service I can try to catch up on.
My DVD / Blue Ray libray is calling as well as dozen of great books long over due.

AND … build a dio and post some pictures!!!!

Stay safe folks.

I'm going to miss the start of MLB. So many young outstanding players it's a golden time for baseball which has always been my favorite sport.

A lot of teams in spring training wanted to stay there together and practice but MLB is telling them they need to engage in social distancing.

There are some great sports documentaries out there.

MLB is running them and so is the NFL Network.

At the moment some of our major sports teams are still playing in empty stadiums but the games are being televised. I believe ESPN is showing them.

The main sports are Rugby League and Australian Rules Football (AFL). Might also be some soccer.

League for those not familiar with it uses similar shaped ball as the NFL. Oh wait, so does AFL. Anyway RL is the one where a few guys have moved to USA to try out for NFL but soon came back as our guys are only allowed to pass backwards so tended to get confused running forward to catch it from a guy behind them.

Now for American viewers if you are going to watch RL you will need to pick a team to support. If you are in Texas or any cowboy / Western type state you should probably pick a Queensland team. We have the Broncos (Brisbane), Cowboys (Townsville, up North) and Titans (Gold Coast). If your NFL team normally loses most of their games you might not want to choose the Titans ^&grin.

Most of the NRL teams are based in Sydney and have exotic names like the Eels, Tigers, Sharks, Roosters. Russell Crowes team is called the Rabbitohs. Now if you normally support the Patriots (George pay attention !) you should support the Manley Sea Eagles as they are the team everybody else dislikes. If you have a thing for Vikings then the Canberra Raiders might be your team but bear in mind their major sponsor is a Chinese telephone company not so popular elsewhere. Victoria has one Melbourne team called the Storm but under no circumstances should you support them as they have a habit of winning the competition a bit too much. In fact they were stripped of two premierships a few years ago due to salary cap breaches. Their fans are all still in therapy because of it.

I mentioned the salary cap. It is $9.8 million for the whole team ! Or not much more than US$5 million.

The top 8 teams at the end of the season play to win the Grand Final. There is also State of Origin which is best of three between Queensland and New South Wales.

Now having never watched a game of aerial ballet I will leave that up to somebody like Wayne to explain. However for the record the Brisbane team is called the Lions. Don't let him and Obee trick you into supporting Perth teams. If you are into cocaine then I suspect the Eagles might be your team {sm4} I will however say there must be a reason why nobody else in the world plays AFL although the Irish apparently come close. I don't mean the Boston Irish, I mean the real Irish.

Not sure if ESPN shows cricket but it must really be the end of the world if an American sports fan is watching cricket. Oh wait, you guys actually watch baseball so it does involve a bat and running after whacking the ball as far as you can and hoping nobody catches it. Try not to get too excited if one guy scores over 100 runs as it is not quite the same as a home run.

Ok missed a few teams so for completeness the remaining teams are :

Dragons (from just south of Sydney)
Bulldogs (if you like your team to have a few scandals this is the one for you).
Panthers (Sydney based)
Knights (from Newcastle, industrial port city north of Sydney)

Special mention must go to the Warriors. They are the team from New Zealand that plays in the Australian competition. Can be a bit confusing when the commentators call them the NZ team. However these guys are being highly praised at the moment as they were caught in Australia when the NZ PM introduced travel restrictions into NZ. This meant that if they returned they would have had to go into 14 days self isolation. If they had have returned they would no longer be able to compete in the competition and would have affected the whole season. They have chosen to remain in Australia to play. It is unfortunate there are no crowds as these guys should should be cheered for what they are doing.

I’m finding that I have little interest in watching or listening to sports talk right now. The hosts are trying their best but you can’t invent something where nothing exists.

I've found, to my absolute shock and surprise, that I function just fine without sports of any sort. Plenty of books to read and movies to watch, so I simply haven't missed sports...yet. -- Al

Today, when I went for my walk, I tried listening to some sports radio but they're talking as if nothing else is going on. I understand they're trying to get people's minds off the daily existence but you can't pretend things are "normal," because they're not. I really haven't missed them that much either.
