I was just thinking about when I was young, about 3rd grade, my family was visiting Gettysburg, right after the movie came out, and we walked into a shop that was selling movie surplus/props. I remember seeing the hat (or at least one of the hats) that Jeff Daniels wore as Joshua Chamberlain, it came with an autographed picture of Daniels from the movie, and a certificate of authenticity. I remember that it costed $75, even though I was only about 8, I had the money to buy it, but my parents "talked me out of it" They thought it was too much money, and that I could buy more things with the same amount of money........but it was my money!!!! Well, here I sit, 26 years old, thinking back about that, wishing I had bought it, because I have no idea where I could find it now :rolleyes2: The best I could do is buy a reproduction kepi and attach a 20th Maine patch to it........but it just won't be the same

I can't remember the times I have thought I will get that another time only for ''it'' not to be there or sold out. If you see something you want buy it there and then

There have been some really big ones over the years that I passed on. #1 Imperial Heirloom Set The In Action Square set... Ugh I am still kicking myself on that one.

The 1969 Camero I skipped on because the guy who owned it had replaced the engine and tranny with none stock ones that ran nicely but would have cost a bunch to replace with the correct ones.

These sorts of decisions while they made sense then due to whatever issues I had going on have made me rethink things and I have decided that if I can afford it with out too much grovelling and begging with my wife I will go ahead and buy it. Thankfully these sorts of decisions are few and far between.

At my age I have plenty of things I have missed out on. My biggest regrets, though, revolve around things I have had and, for what ever reason, have sold or traded and therefore no longer have. Some soldiers fall into this category such as the WW1 Trophy artillery sets I had, but most are books. I had a huge military history book collection that I had to break up because of financial reasons. Most of these books are now exceedingly hard to find and have also become ridiculously expensive. Oh well.:( -- Al

I regret missing out on a Heco Tinplate Models World War I German Gunboat. It took me a couple of months to scrape together the money for it, and by the time I did, it had been sold.:(

I am very patient so I always get what I want with time :smile2: Sometimes it took me a few years to get missing TS and other items at the right price...

Hello Louis

Is this the gunboat you are referring to? When I saw it on the Heco Tinplate thread earlier this year, I went very weak at the knees. I'd love to own it. I can picture it on Lake Tanganyika or plowing the waters of the Frisian Islands.

That is the actual gunboat. That photo was taken from the website of the shop which had it in stock. Originally, it was too expensive. Then, when it was marked down to a reasonable price (still a lot of money) I needed some time to scrape together the money for it. By the time I had enough money, it had been sold. I ended up buying Heco Tinplate Models Tiger tank and Hawker Hurricane from the same shop, but would give anything to have grabbed that gunboat. The gunboat and the Junkers JU52 are the two Heco Tinplate Models I want most in the world.
