Everyones Top 5 War Series (Mini) (2 Viewers)

1-Combat 2-Band of Brothers 3-Hornblower 4-Sharpe 5- 12 o'clock High

Never heard of By the Sword Divided, I will have to check that one out.

Its based on the English Civil War from the start up until the restoration of Charles II to the throne.

Its from the early 80's and its not a bad series, costumes and sets are good, a few hairstyles not so. (theres no big battle scenes though which is a shame).

Here to eternity- almost never shown tv version
twelve oclock high-great B17 film and better editing then the military channel
Combat-kirby handling the bar
Silent service-not shown in many years
Navy log-ditto

don't think I ever saw a TV version of twelve o'clock high - when was this made?

Looks like 1964, and it ran for 3 seasons. Here's a link to its page at the IMdb:

Not to be confused with "Three O'Clock High", a mindless but entertaining teen movie featuring Casey Siemaszko as a high school kid facing a showdown with the school tough, played by Richard Tyson.

Prost!

Rbt Lansing played savage first,,better than Paul Burke, the kinder etc co, got a bit softer in the story lines towards the end. Its shown on "amerilife" channel whatever that might be. Interesting early cameos by actors like a lot of things back then.

Band of Brothers is number 1

I also liked Shaka Zulu

Interesting set of offerings. Just for fun, if you total and add a simple weighting (1=5, 2=4, etc.) to the postings here the top 10 to date would be as follows:

1 Band of Brothers
2 Sharpe
3 Hornblower
4 Combat
5 Dad's Army
5 Tour of Duty
7 Foyle's War
7 North & South
9 Piece of Cake
10 Winds of War
10 From Here to Eternity
10 Shogun

Of course, Combat, Dad's Army and Tour of Duty are not mini series so removing them would bump all those below up two and add Holocaust and Anzacs as shared number 10.

I will go with 1- COMBAT 2- BAND OF BROTHERS 3- VICTORY AT SEA 4- RAT PATROL 5-THE WORLD AT WAR. Just loved most of that old stuff growing up. I remember knowing more about WW-2 than any of my classmates, because I watched the WORLD AT WAR narrated by Sir Lawrence Olivier, every saturday morning. I'll bet Louis remembers that. For those of you too young to remember, I recommend you buy the complete boxed 11 disc dvd set, with over 22 hours of ww-2 education that is second to none.

1 Band of Brothers
2 Hornblower (wish they'd make more)
3 Shogun
4 The Blue and the Gray
I have yet to see the Sharpe series but am looking forward to it.

All true here,a top 5 is almost impossible,,fortunate for us they all were made,,not much in the future I believe.
