There are so many movie action "heroes" around today, so I thought I would ask about movie action heroes from the past -- say pre-1965. I would pick Errol Flynn for his action roles in: Charge of the Light Brigade, They Died with Their Boots on, Santa Fe Trail, Robin Hood, Captain Blood, Etc.

I agree with you both, Errol Flynn and John Wayne by far and away are my picks. Just look at the sheer number of action/adventure movies they each made. But I would add Humphrey Bogart as well.

Prost!

I agree, I have spent many evenings enjoying the work of these two

Hollywood legends.:D

I agree with lancer the great John Wayne takes the title hands down, probably followed by C. Heston!

Vick:D

Having voted for Duke, I must say one of my favorite films does not have him in it. It does have Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Cary Grant, Victor McLaglen, and Sam Jaffe. The world famous "Gunga Din". -- lancer

All of the above along with Gary Cooper, Spencer Tracy, and Jimmy Stewart. Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchem aren't to sneezed at either.

You are anti American if the Duke is not #1!
Well there,s Rock Hudson, oh that,s for another board.

Well, I'm not anti American and The Duke has a a great screen presence. But he's not someone I can see swinging from Ship to Ship as Ye Olde Swash-buckling Action Heroes used to do.

The Duke does not swing. He would capture the offending ship with his rope, then jump across on his horse while shooting the enemy with his Colt Peacemaker. He would then ride off into the sunset. -- lancer

Just as long as he doesn't ride off with Chuck Norris, that would be just wrong

Maybe not in the same class but a well known and great actor indeed Paul Newman passed away yesterday at the age of 83.

It is hard to disagree with this pick. I grew up watching his movies on TV and now enjoy them greatly on dvd. I would also add the Duke.;) Clint would also earn this accolade but for the next era.;)
