Favorite Military Uniforms (1 Viewer)

Rod- of all the people I have met, you are the only person I can ever recall who mentioned the Volksturm as a favorite uniform. :) Very interesting selection there sir.

Chris, I am not obsessed by the Battle of Berlin, like many people should think, but personal, I like the mix of civil-militia uniform and military show by the Germans in the final days of the war.

Cheers my friend

HOAAH!!!

That's a sharp looking "Bloody Bucket" there sir- Roll on 28th!!

Thanks, CC!

Yes, it's a little too sharp looking-'cause it's a repro-it and the A2 were made in the late 80s but the pinks & greens, shirts, belt, tie are circa 1940s-as is the "Keystone" Div. patch.

Hi Chris,

You ask some mighty fine questions. I will have to say that there are some great answers here and I too favor some of the British Army's Magnificent uniforms especially the 1st Duke of Yorks Lancers Skinners Horse but I am still a big fan of the Army Blues we wore for formals. Of course if it was a question of function I would go for my OD Green Tankers Nomex with the winter jacket and of course my German Tanker Boots. Also to annoy the Battalion CSM I used to love wearing my Grandfathers brown 45 holster on a web belt without the required LBE suspenders. Ah the good old days.

All the best

Sir-

Are you hinting that the officers would intentionally do things to annoy the Senior EM's???:p I cannot imagine that EVER happened???

I omitted the Dress Blues from my list as most people, unfortunately don't know of them- they are extrememly sharp- especially if you had a lot of awards and such. Easily one of my favorite unis, probably number 2 just behind the Romans.

That must have been tricky wearing the LBE without the suspenders- I always rigged my pro mask to my LBE.

Anxiously awaiting your return sir.

Take care,
CC

Hi Chris,

The thought of annying a senior EM as an Lt was always fun it was just the where and when that you needed to choose wisely, I had more then my share of peers who could never figure out that one.

As for the promask (M25 vs the M17) we had to keep our's seperate from the LBE because we had to be able to link them up with the vehicles gas particulate system. So the wearing of a stripped web belt with the 45 holster was really easy, plus I only would do this deep into one of our many FTX's or NTC trips. Just had to see if they were really watching.

I even carried this trend on after the arrival of the 9mm only I did it by wearing a black personally purchased 9mm holster because I just had too. Same type of holster only in Black and boy oh boy did that one get their attention:D

All the best

1. Any and all Highland Regimental uniforms from the 19th Century. Sorry but the Highlanders just look so freakin' cool. I especially love the Gordons!

2. Civil War Union Zoaves Uniforms. Those fire red pants . . .

3. Napoleonic French Hussar Uniforms. Pelisse and Dolman . . . need I say more.

4. 11th Hussars from the Charge of the Light Brigade . . . the above, plus cherry pink pants!

5. Ancient Roman Legionaries.

Those are my top five.

Louis I agree with you on all but the last. Spartans are cool for #5 and then this one is the tops!

Here's a top ten off the top of my head from around the world (restricting myself to combat uniforms rather than parade ones):

1. Samurai/ashigaru armor from 1500-1700
2. Waffen SS in M40 camo smock and helmet cover
3. Late Medieval Gothic plate armor, especially German
4. Roman Imperial Legionnaire
5. Greek Hoplite
6. Brit/Canadian Napoleonic Redcoat
7. Delta Force Mogadishu '93 (or at least what we THINK they looked like)
8. Templar/Hospitaller/Teutonic Knight wearing Great Helm
9. American M1942 paratrooper uniform (Normandy)
10. Polish Winged Hussar
