The happy memories of Lords are not always an English experience. Other countries seem to lift when they play at the home of cricket. Was it Vengsaker who got a hundred there every time he played? Even when Australia has got flogged in England, we always seemed to play better there. I have done the Lords tour a couple of times. Excellent - even the new media centre seems so eccentrically English.

Yes there is something very special about the home of Cricket as you say Jack. Not sure if its the same these days but during breaks I would go for short walks to look around and would pass so many famous Cricketers that for a kid it was exciting, Viv Richards , Derek Randall, Bob Willis etc.

Eng v Aus at Lords , no better sporting event for me. Although the three rounds of Hagler v Hearns was pretty darn good!

Yes that media center, looks like a spaceship of some description but kind of works though!

Derek Randall - what a blast from the past. The hero of the Centenary Test. I wonder what he is up to these days.

He was a good batsman and quite a character, if memory serves (I may be wrong here)he once got into trouble for writing the word t**s in the turf with his foot in the outfield^&grin

Knew I'd forgotten one!! Barry Richards has to be one of the finest I ever saw , absolutely fantastic player, gifted , prolific he was a joy to watch. His record in this link speaks for itself. And when he opened with Gordon Greenidge for Hampshire, well you might as well go home!

What about the top three in the 'World' team in World Series Cricket - Richards, Greenidge and Richards? Not too shabby!!

Now there are three batsmen you wouldn't want to bowl at on an off day with a hangover!

Viv and Beefy made quite the duo for Somerset too, I remember them coming to Lords and bothering traffic outside the ground on various occasions.

But may the Patron Saint of Ashes saving rain forgive me, how could I have forgotten Barry Richards:rolleyes2:

PS Jack, my next question for you. Medium fast bowler, run up so long they had to move the sight screens (slight exaggeration - but only slight) second name Proctore, first name??

Mike. Bowled off the wrong foot from memory. Quite a hard hitting batsman.

Mike, that's it. Yes he was quite the hitter, what a run up too, tiring just watching!
