Favourite Imperial Piece (1 Viewer)

Its always a tough call to pick one favourite and if I answered tommorow
it would probably be a different set but the Gordons colour party and as
a group combined are up their with the best for me.
My favourite single figure is probably this guy from saving the colours.

I'd have to vote for the French:Standard Bearer, Chasseurs Cheval (#97)

Though the Town & Around sets are hard to beat...

Nathan,

Great thread. I echo many of the comments on favorite sets. This is a tough one. I collect in several ranges: (1) Napoleonics (I have all 57 Nap sets, including add-ons); (2) Crimea (will have them all in short order excluding some of the add-ons, which I will skip); (3) Egypt/Sudan (I have 14 of the 20 sets - basically all the ones that I want in that range); (4) Bengal Lancers (have all 5 of the sets and 1 of the 5 officer sets); and (5) a few early sets and HS 1, Gordon Highlanders. Over 100+ sets and counting. Thus, for me, I will make my selection for each of these ranges.

1. Napoleonics. It is almost impossible to pick one because I love every set in this range. They truly define what it is to make a great toy soldier. Just beautifully done. Anyway, with that intro and forced to make a pick, I would have to say Set 118, Chef De Escardon Kirman. I have always thought the Mamelukes were cool looking and he is very nicely done.

2. Crimea. I would assume most folks would pick from the British side for this range. To change it up a bit, I would pick Set 85, the Russian Line Infantry (black straps) with flag bearer.

3. Egypt/Sudan. Set 126, Camel Regiment. I was after this set for years and when Imperial reopened, I snapped up the last one they had. David is now making this set again so I would encourage folks to pick up this very unique set. Would love to see Imperial do some Mahdis on camels in the future. Honorable mention to No. 54, Mounted Mahdist banner bearer. This was one of the first sets I ever purchased in April 1995.

4. Bengal Lancers (50-50D). Again, great sets. I loved them so much I got duplicates of them. I really like Set 50B, 1st Bengal Cavalry (in yellow), but 50C, 4th Bengal Cavalary (in red) is a close second.

5. Early and special sets. Set 1, Girl's Khaki Brigade. It is the first Imperial set and it is a female unit, which is unique. I also love my HS1, Gordon Highlanders (Drum, thanks again for that opportunity).

Oh boy, this is a hard one! I would have to choose all the Napoleonic sets, something truly apart in the toy soldier world, love them all but only have a few so far.
No. 24 Black Watch colour party 1900, Foreign Service Dress and No. 62 Black Watch 1882 are sets that I am fortunate to own and that are very dear to me not just because of their utmost quality but also because they were the result of a hard chase... I would also mention as close seconds, for the same reasons, No. 67 Coldstream Guards 1854 and No. 7, NZ Mounted Rifleman, Sinai-Palestine, WWI.
Well, like somebody has already said, I might just change my mind about this tomorrow, with Imperial I would just be right all the time!:) .

Long live Imperial!
Paulo

I have the whole Brave Defenders #41 and Storehouse #42 in the classified section right now if anyone is interested. Comes with a set of Zulus #78 as well and I'm open to offers. No hidden reserve here. Would love to sell as a complete set. :D Cheers, ssorc1

Has anyone mentioned any of the lovely Around Town sets? The companion animals are a real joy. The beautiful clothing and elegant figures are wonderful
I think these are really my favorites when it comes to Imperial. I have bought many of these over the years. Children, Adults, and Animals all going about their daily lives.

I don't think so KV. The few pieces I have seen are very nice. I wouldn't mind gettin hold of one of the dogs. I wonder if the would sell me just the dog?

My favorite Imperial piece, hands down, is the Naval Brigade in the Sudan Gatlin Gun & Crew. It is beautifully sculpted and painted, and the limber that comes with it is such a great addition to a Gatlin Gun set. Before I became addicted to matt figures, Imperial was my favorite company for quite some time. I even went back, sought out and purchased quite a few of the very early sets like the Highland Mounted Infantry and desert Blackwatch sets. I also have several of the Town and Around Series sets in my wife's China Cabinet for my little daughter. Imperial are far and away my favorite traditional toy soldiers.

Louis,

If you have it out, please send me a photo and I'll post it.

How odd. I just got the Gatling Gun set in the mail today from Imperial. David cast me one - although he said the mold is now basically shot. Will photo in next day or so.

Hey guys,

That gatling gun peice is exception - mine arrived only last week.

Here it is supporting the Egyptian Infantry and the Cameron Highlanders at the Sudan.

(appologies for poor picture quality)

Very nice indeed, Nathan. A lovely little square as well!

My favorite piece are the street lamps. Especially after repainting and weathering them for a battle worn WWII scene.

Okay, I'm sorry was that sacrilege? I have about 12 of them that way.

I'll look around if I see any loose dogs. There was one from the Rourke drift set but I got that one.;)

In the Town and Around sets there is a spaniel following a Butcher's boy delivering a basket of meat.
