FW 190 A-6
Anton Hackl - III./JG 11 Oldenburg 1944

Anton "Toni" Hackl was born on March 25th 1915 in Regensburg (Bavaria) as the son of a master carpenter. He joined the German army in 1932 first serving with an infantry regiment. He transferred to the Luftwaffe and completed pilot training in the autumn of 1938. On May 1st 1940, Hackl was based in Norway serving with 5./JG 77. He achieved his first victories on 15 June 1940 when he shot down two RAF Hudsons over Stavanger. On 27 June he shot down another Hudson, but was wounded in this battle. He was promoted from Oberfeldwebel to Oberleutnant for bravery in combat.

He recorded four victories during his time in Norway, and on July 29th 1941 was transferred to the Eastern Front, where he increased his score to 27 by the end of year. On January 23rd 1942, he became Staffelkapitän of 5./JG 77, and on May 25th 1942 after 51 victories he received the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. During the last ten months of the war Hackl was credited with 43 confirmed victories, including 20 achieved in 1945, though his last 24 victories were never officially confirmed. Anton Hackl was a professional officer with the reputation of being an aggressive and intelligent commander, and most importantly perhaps, a lucky pilot. He was downed 8 times and wounded 4 times.

Hackl's FW190 aircraft devoid of any special (or colorful) markings beyond those required for a Geschwaderstab commander, and indeed even these are simplified by not being outlined.

Anton Hackl survived the war and died on July 10th 1984 in Regensburg. He flew more than 1000 combat missions and achieved a confirmed air victories, with a further 24 denied recognition. The air victories are distributed with 105 on the Eastern Front, 6 in Africa and 87 on the Western Front or Home Défense. Among the latter are 32 four-engine bombers.

We have 3 models available of this historic aircraft priced at $750 plus postage. You can get 10% off the full retail price by inserting 'discount' into the coupon box at checkout.

WOW716. F-6F Hellcat
ALEX VRACIU

The Grumman F6F Hellcat was an American carrier-based fighter aircraft of WWII. Designed to replace the earlier F4F Wildcat and to counter the Japanese Zero, it was the US Navy’s dominant fighter in the second half of the Pacific War. In gaining that role, it prevailed over its faster competitor, the F4U Corsair, which initially had problems with visibility and carrier landings. The Hellcat first saw action against the Japanese on September 1st 1943, when fighters off USS Independence shot down a "Emily" flying boat. On November 23rd/24th 1943, Hellcats engaged Japanese aircraft over Tarawa, shooting down a claimed 30 Zeros for the loss of one F6F. Over Rabaul, New Britain, on November 11th 1943, Hellcats and F4U Corsairs were engaged in day-long fights with many Japanese aircraft, including Zeros, claiming nearly 50 aircraft

Alexander Vraciu (1918–2015) began his combat career as the wingman for the legendary Medal of Honor recipient Edward "Butch" O'Hare, and was one of the United States Navy's most distinguished fighter aces of World War II, famously piloting the Grumman F6F Hellcat. He ended the war as the Navy's fourth-highest-ranking ace, credited with 19 aerial victories and 21 aircraft destroyed on the ground. The "Great Marianas Turkey Shoot": On 19 June 1944, Vraciu achieved his most famous feat by shooting down six Japanese dive bombers in just eight minutes using only 360 rounds of ammunition. In December 1944, Vraciu was shot down over the Philippines. He spent five weeks behind enemy lines, eventually leading a unit of Filipino guerrilla fighters as a brevet major before rejoining American forces.

WOW647. Sea Hornet 424
WOW648. Sea Hornet 481 - Folded Wings

The fastest production piston-engined fighter ever built. Developed from the de Havilland Mosquito, this twin-piston engine fighter, serving as a long-range fighter, night fighter (NF.21), and photo-reconnaissance aircraft (PR.22). Capable of speeds up to 472–480 mph. It featured counter-rotating propellers to eliminate torque during take-off, which was critical for carrier operations. While it arrived too late for WWII combat, it saw significant action during the Malayan Emergency in the 1950s for ground attack and air support. All variants were retired by 1956. No complete aircraft exist today, though some fragments and a restoration project are located in the UK and New Zealand. The Sea Hornet demonstrated the remarkable potential of late-war piston-engine design before being surpassed by jet-powered aircraft. Our releases represent a unique phase in Fleet Air Arm history and represents an aircraft that was elegance and firepower through technical innovation. Test pilot Eric "Winkle" Brown described the Sea Hornet in glowing terms, stating it was the "zenith" of shipboard piston-engine fighter design.

Sea Hornets Royal Navy were delivered to the Royal Navy in 1950. our 2 x 1/30 scale Sea Hornets served with 809 Naval Air Squadron (NAS). In January 1949, 809 Squadron, the only unit to operate the NF 21, went aboard HMS Illustrious and then, in May 1951, to HMS Vengeance. The squadron was briefly seconded to the RAF at Coltishall before a posting to Hal Far Malta where it disbanded in 1954. The NF.21 later equipped the Fleet Requirements Units at Hal Far, Malta, and St. Davids, West Wales. During it’s operation service, the Sea Hornet was capable of intercepting any aircraft in trials.

Focke Wulf FW.1000 ‘Snakes Head’

The Focke-Wulf 1000x1000x1000, also known as Focke-Wulf 239 was a twin jet bomber designed for the Luftwaffe by the Focke-Wulf aircraft manufacturing company during the last years of the Third Reich.

Their designation meant that this series of bombers would be able to carry a bomb that weighed 1000 kg for a distance of 1000 km at a speed of 1000 km/h.

Focke-Wulf produced three different designs of the project that would have been powered by two Heinkel HeS 011 turbojet engines. The innovative-looking series of jet bombers was designed by H. von Halem and D. Küchemann.

The project was cancelled because of the German surrender in 1945. Our what if 1/30 scale model shows what a superlative design the bomber could have been had the project bore fruition.

The price for this hand carved Mahogany wood model is $799 plus postage.
