Dear All
Welcome to Februarys release notes with hopefully something for everybody. All the figures in this release should be available around the 21st February fingers crossed! So starting off in date order I am pleased to announce a new range of figures from the French Indian War.
French Indian War
We have been asked by a museum in the UK to make a batch of 60th (Royal American) Regiment figures for display in their museum shop. The majority of these figures will therefore be allocated to the museum, but of course we do have some for sale through dealers and ourselves.
The Royal Americans were formed in 1756 after Braddocks defeat and were specifically formed with a view to fighting in the Americas and Canada. Officer recruitment was mainly from Switzerland and Germany, it was the first time foreigners had been allowed an officers commission in the British army. The 60th were trained to fight as a conventional infantry unit but also as a more irregular force that could fight in the heavily wooded areas of North America against the French and the Native Indians. The Regiment fought at Louisbourg, Quebec and Bushy run plus it maintained garrisons throughout the continent during the FIW. Our first figure from this series is dressed as he would have been for the FIW and is stood to attention, useful for either on parade, guard or waiting to go into battle. All the figures in this series are slightly smaller than our normal 60mm range and will fit in nicely with Britain’s, JJD or Frontline figures from this period.
FIW001A is clean shaven, dressed wearing white gaiters whilst our B version wears the ‘campaign’ brown gaiters and has more of an unshaven look about him. Both figures priced at $37/£27 each and limited to 100 each in number.
The Foreign Legion
Our Mexican Adventure kicks off with four great action packed figures as described in Decembers dispatches. Mexico was Emperor Napoleons attempt to establish an empire for France in Mexico whilst the United States were busy with their own Civil War. One of the most famous of all battles was fought at Camerone where a few legionnaires fought off several thousand Mexicans before being overwhelmed and almost wiped out to the last man. We plan to expand this range significantly over the next few months and it is all set to be one of flagship ranges with lots more additions!
MAD FFL 001 – An NCO points out a target whilst keeping a low profile.
MAD FFL 002 – Kneeling firing soldier picks out another target
MAD FFL 003 – Standing firing wearing red trousers slightly turning to the left.
MAD FFL 004 – More formal upright standing firing straight ahead and wearing white trousers.
All the above are limited to 100 in number and are priced at $37/£27 each. Please note there is no B version available so get these whilst you can!
Moving on with our very popular Beau Geste style FFL range we have added some more firing line figures which have been badly needed for a little while!
FFL 017 features a standing and kneeling firing pair of legionnaires loaded down with backpacks. The A version wear Kepi fitted with Havelock’s whilst the B version sport beards and wear white Kepis minus the Havelock.
FFL 018 comprises two more Legionnaires in the classic ‘Standing Repel’ and ‘Kneeling Repel’ which was still used by the French to fight off cavalry charges in the desert. The A version once again sport Kepis with Havelock’s whilst the B version wear the normal white kepis with beards to give them a more rugged appearance.
FFL 019 is a single figure standing firing in a more formal firing pose than FFL017 and minus his backpack. Provides a useful dio filler for your firing line, square or even from a fort rampart! The A version wears a Kepi with Havelock whilst the B version wears a normal Kepi and has a patch on the left leg of his trousers!
All the above limited to 125 in number and priced at $70/£52 per set of two figures except for FFL 019 single figure set which is $36/£27.
FFL 024 is a single standing reload figure which has been sorely missing from the ranks since we started this range. The A version wears a Kepi with Havelock whilst the B version is missing his hat, but still reaches coolly for more ammo as the Arabs fire around him. This figure is actually very flexible as he can be positioned facing up to four different ways in your firing line, whereas the firing line guys generally have to be facing forwards towards the enemy!
As such we only made 100 of these figures in each version as we figured he would probably not be as popular as the others in this release.
Priced at $37/£27 and limited to 100 in number.
Scramble for Africa Series
SFA005 Lying down firing rifleman. No base on this figure allows him to be used in a variety of places. The A version has no Pith hat whilst the B version has Pith hat worn as per Queens regulations! Priced at $37/£27 and limited to 100 in number.
SFA006 Wounded Rifleman or probably very close to dead looking at the nasty wound suffered to his throat! Once again the A version is minus his Pith hat whilst the B version wear pith hat. Limited to 100 in number and priced at $37/£27 as per normal.
Please note these figures are the same size as Britains and Conte to enable the collector to mix and match their collection. For some reason the attached photos have come out slightly glossy compared to normal, I will try and get some improved photos next week which I can send out to you.
World War 1
LOA009 and LOA010 are the B version of our FFL Arabs that recently sold out at quite an unbelievable rate of knots. This version as such will be very useful for helping the Allied side in their fight against the Turks.
LOA009 comprise a standing firing figure and a wounded brother in arms.
LOA010 features a standing sneaking forward and a cautiously advancing Arab on all fours.
Both sets are priced at $70/£52 and limited to 100 in number.
GW018 is something not seen from Thomas Gunn before and this is French WW1 infantry wearing gas masks dressed in Horizon Blue! Both soldiers are wearing the ARS gas mask which was very similar in appearance to the German army issue gas mask of the time. One soldier reloads whilst kneeling and our second figure fires from the prone position. A truly unique set limited to 100 in number and priced at $70/£52 for the pair. Please note more Frenchies wearing gas masks will be coming later on in the year to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of WW1.
World War 2
LUFT 006/007 Desert Mechanics
A useful pair of mechanics for use on your desert airfield. LUFT006 is a kneeling mechanic without base that can be used in a variety of positions around, underneath or on top of an aircraft or even a vehicle! LUFT007 is equally as flexible in that he is lying down screwdriver in hand carrying out some necessary repairs, once again with no base and can be used in a variety of positions around aircraft or vehicles.
These were actually the B version of our Normandy mechanics that were issued with V005 Natter and as such we only made 60 sets of these in the Desert version.
Priced at $37/£27 each these figures like all our others will be available around the 21st February.
CLUB 009 is the B version of our recently released FFL015 Parade Officer, this time with beard, Havelock fitted to Kepi and red trousers. A very striking figure which is available free to all customers who spend $150 or more through our website.
That’s all for this month guys, some very nice WW1 and WW2 additions next month I can promise you, all of which will be available to view in London at the Toy Soldier Show in March.
Kind Regards
Vicki Lucas
