Has passed away. That was a great 60's show that still comes on one of the cable stations:

A native of Texas, Parker served in the U.S. Navy during World War II before graduating from the University of Texas-Austin in 1950.

He moved to Los Angeles in the early 1950s to pursue acting.

Walt Disney cast Parker in the lead role of "Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier," co-starring Buddy Ebsen. He followed that with several more Disney films, including "Davy Crockett and the River Boat Pirates," "The Great Locomotive Chase" and "Smoky."

His TV career took off in 1964 with the title role in NBC's "Daniel Boone," which aired for for six seasons.

Farewell to the one and only (Wayne was ok but Fess was best) Davy Crockett. He was my first "hero" as Davy and I also loved the locamotive chase as well. Fess provided me with many happy hours of viewing, as well as getting to see him in the traveling version of the "Oklahoma" musical, many moons ago. -- lancer

I was born in 1955 so I guess my generation was the first to grow up and have TV regular and during that time we had a lot of shows that we liked and favorite tv stars and Fess Parker was one of mine as I always watched Daniel Boone. He will be missed. It's sad to see so many of our old favs leave us.

I always enjoyed watching him when I was young. It seems he had a good life, out in California after his career as an actor. Good for him!

He will be missed!

A large part of my childhood has passed. A little known fact- Mr. Parker had a small part in "THEM", in the hospital scene, towards the end of the movie. Walt Disney saw him in it and hired him to play Crockett on the strength of his performance. He also opened up a winery in Ca with his own brand of wine. If he was around and you recognised him, he would autograph the bottle. A true gentleman to the end.

Davy Crockett has died...again. I just heard the news of Fess Parker's passing on the radio and immediately went onto this forum to see if anyone had posted the news. The man had a great life, but I will feel his loss. I was born in 49 and Fess Parker as Davy Crockett was my childhood idol. My aunt made me a Davy Crockett outfit, complete with coonskin cap and powder horn on a strap. I have childhood pictures of me riding a pony in that outfit. Coincidentally, I just played Disney's "Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier" song on YouTube two days ago. God speed, Davy Crockett.

Fess Parker also played in "Old Yeller", my favorite childhood animal movie starring a "real" animal. Bambi was probably my favorite, but Bambi was animated.

Yes Mike they were great memories.People of today's generation won't remember the shows of today so fondly.

I remember Fess Parker in the Davy Crockett role.

I’ve played this record a few times in the last day, OK I know it isn’t by Fess but I don’t have his version, yet;)
