What do you think of this chaps for the AZW? Any good or not close enough to the time period?

Both of those are really cool looking sets and I think both would era fit the AZW well,

I'm getting jealous here.

Michael

Thanks Martyn & Michael.

Just to clarify that the pics posted ARE NOT MINE. I have however just purchased this kit and thought it might not look that bad in the background of my dio.

I'm still jealous and they will look outstanding in your dio,:cool::cool:

Hmmmm....hungry now......

The Tamiya field kitchen looks pretty close to tht Trophy in design (nice set BTW Martyn). I'd say go for it. You could make food from air dry clay if there's none included in the kit.

Thanks Simon and Scott I think your Field Kitchen will look  in your display

Well thought I would post a couple of pictures of the kit. I also managed to put the horses together. I have taken a couple of pictures of them alongside other Britains pieces. I think I am going to paint the kitchen part matte and place it in the background of my AZW display. The horses I will paint gloss and use them in a ceremonial display of some kind.

This is actually going together quite easily. It has been a while since I have done a plastic kit and I am surprised how well the pieces fit together with out any gaps. At a bit of a stalemate now need some paint, before I can proceed to the next step.

That's a great little kit, Scott. I built that one, too, back in the day. The driver always reminded me of "The Longest Day", and Gerd Fröbe (credited as "Feldwebel Kaffeekanne"-"Sergeant Coffepot"). And it came with a ton of little accessories-German mess tins, canteens, the milk cans. That's a popular piece with the modelers.

You've got to put up pics to show us how you're coming with it!

Prosit!

Cheers Brad, I will post progress pictures as it develops. The only thing I don't like is that the horse don't have the harness moulded on. They have to be cut from thin plastic sheeting (included) the painted and glued on. I don't know how confident I feel about doing that.

I remember those pieces, but you'll do fine! You'd want to use a metal straight edge, and a good, sharp blade, a new #11 should do it. Looking back, I remember that I used tube glue to attach the harness. It was Testor's modeling cement, but I think if I were to do it now, I would use a liquid glue, at the very least, on the edges of the harness, to make it look a little more like leather tack. Especially, to make the edges a little rounder or softer. Mine still looked like sheet styrene, especially around the front.

Tamiya also had a set of German cavalry, which was nice. You could mix and match pieces from Airfix and Historex with the kit pieces, and bash almost any mounted figure. The only drawback was the kit horse, which was just standing. But again, Airfix, or even Britains Deetail had much more animated horses that you could swap in for the kit figure.

We'll make a scale modeler of you yet! ;)

Prost!
Brad

Brad thanks for the advice. I was thinking along these lines also.

Scott,
I love the ideas that are now popping into your head! And I think I know where you're going with this:cool: Next you'll need voorlopers to work you trek trains:D.
Can't wait for more!
Mike

Some more progress, almost finished and just a splash more painting to do.

Posted with Britains plastic & lead horses, lead figures and a matte 24th foot.

Personally I think for close up shots the kitchen goes better with the glossy figures, but I think this would work well in the background for my matte figures.

What are your thoughts gentlemen?

Brit,

Maybe a little better with the glossys, but it's so nice it's versatile enough for anything I think.

Very nice job, looks like it came from the factory,

Michael

Scott,

Nice job, it is progressing nicely.
