I mentioned this in another thread, I'm just re-stating it here where it could be better seen.
I understand the attention to Waterloo, but there is sooo much more and much bigger events and battles during the napoleonic era.
The diversity of uniforms, countries, events and personalities is spectacular.
I also understand there might not be as great an appeal, so I thought maybe Andy you could run a parallel "Fields of Battle" series as you did with WWII?
The success of that series would lead me to believe there is enough interest to make it a success?

I think loads of people remember seeing Waterloo in the cinema or on video, and that's why Waterloo is so popular!!!!!!!! I must admit thought, it was a great movie!!!!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D

Well speaking as a Napoleonic novice as it were, about to purchase his first sets from the series i think its a good idea.I am very interested in the British army and would like to see more Brits from the Napoleonic era, perhaps from other campaigns than Waterloo. Also love to see Russians,French,Germans etc.

I for one am quite happy with just what Andy is producing in the Napoleonics now. Just ask Ron or any of the other serious Napoleonic collectors in the forum how expensive a line it is to collect!!
If you WWII guys want some idea how expensive, try buying 3 of your Hummels in one go (half a Napoleonic artillery battery) and also 30 of the same single figure to make up a line or two, and Voila!! Welcome to Napoleonics!! :D

The last thing I need is a break away line to parallell my bankruptcy efforts in the current line. Can't keep up with it as it is. :D

Cheers

For Britain, Waterloo is not just a battle. It is an institution.

Guys,
For me focusing on Waterloo in the Napoleonic era is like and only producing "Battle of Berlin" sets for WWII.
By the time of Waterloo the french were a shadow of there glory years and Waterloo was mearly a "Period" at the end of the First empire.

I fully agree about Britains pride, it's well deserved!

Seriously though, here in Britain Waterloo and Trafalgar still provoke much pride. Its a part of the whole being British thing i guess, that and the fact that we love our History.Wellington and Nelson big Heroes in this part of the world.

True, there was 26 years of fighting during the Napoleonic era and so much scope for different armies, but as Andy stated when pressed for some Prussians, it's what sells ie. British and French.

Therefore a Field of Battle series would be a great opportunity to produce some troops of different nationalities in smaller quantities.

The French maybe were only a shadow of there former selves but the allied forces that stood against them were also exhausted from decades of combat. These days thankfully we are shocked by body counts in there hundreds for whole campaigns. In the Napolionic era one shirmish could wipe out hundreds, mass media had not the same impact as today bringing images into our homes almost as soon as they happen.
Napoleons last big gamble almost payed off and maybe the toy maker Emperor and Empire may in an alternate future be producing French troops for a victorious french market:eek:

I will believe that most, if not all of collectors of K&C NAPs would have studied the Napoleonic period & wars ... in greater breath than the Battle of Waterloo.

Aside from the British and the Prussians ... the Austrians and Russians were very much in it from the start. If Andy is inclined to play it safe with more colorful uniforms ... then an expansion to include the Austrians and Russians will be just as well received.

I agree......Austrians, Russians, Bavarians, Poles and the mulitude of German States can provide colourful uniforms galore! But where to start? I would like to see some Austrians first.

Rob.

Austerlitz = 1805
Peninsular War 1807 - 1814
Retreat from Moscow 1812

Hope this helps

I have talked to Andy - long and hard about expanding not only the Allies - but, the French Empire Troops as well. Andy started out with Troops of the Peninsular War. The early British Troops were in the Spanish Conflict - not Waterloo.

He did do an Old Guard Line that was more for the fun of the Old Guard than Waterloo - I begged for Old Guard Fighting troops and Andy said - Um "NO" :(

The Kings Legion I think was a great start for additional troops of a different stripe. I still havent even got to those yet - like Jeff said - it costs a lot to put together a good diorama of Squares and Calvary

Scenic can tell you this - look at his beautiful squares of Highlanders - the same I am working on with French Dragoons charging - $$$$$$$$$$$$

But, I agree with everyone there are some great troops to be made from other battles - including different French troops from the early period. :D

Most definately ... it has to be the Austrians. We have Waterloo to represent Napoleon's greatest defeat. So let's have the Battle of Austerlitz to commenmorate his greatest victory.

Austrians it is :D :D .. then the Russians :p.

Yep sounds fair to me,Waterloo and Austerlitz.:)

Rob

Errr

I wonder if we will get a reaction from the Almighty Creator :p ... or he will strike us all down with bolts of lightning for pressing :(

I think its ok,we are in the suggestion zone.We are just thinking out loud really!:)
