Recently got this model on ebay.
I knew that the weathering was both dramatic and somewhat odd with a lot of "silver streaks". I read the part about the undercoat of silver, but I just decided to retouch the paint a bit and remove as much of the silver as I could.
Also removed the black streaks on the propeller spinners.
I made a mix of gray, a bit lighter than the models color and dry brushed over the silver weathered areas and most of the model. I later streaked with solvent to blend the color a bit and did some more drybrushing. This in turn toned down the heavy black outlines on the top area. I then made a mix of light sea blue, again lighter than the color used in the model, and drybrushed the underside.
This toned down the black panel line shadows considerably. I then retouched the lower machine gun area with the air gun as I had all but removed the black soot of the front of the machine guns. Might tone it down a bit again...
The images are not great, just quick iPhone photos, before I string it up. I'm in general happy with the model, but the unusual finish did not work for me.
I knew what I was getting and with a very quick and simple touch up, I like the results.

Does anyone know if the spinner should be yellow only, without the white tip? I have seen plates of the solid yellow spinner with the same plane id of NE - A...

Beautiful enhancement. Nicely done. The spinners are indeed correct. Enjoy!
