Figarti Mk VI LC now 3d printed! (6 Viewers)

Hi all,

Its been a long time dream of mine to attain some Figarti Mk VI landing craft. They never made many US ones and even fewer British livery ones and they never come up on the 2nd hand market that ive seen. Even if they did I would expect the price to be around $1500-2000+

But, roll on 3D printing. After years of searching Paul Bell (from https://www.direwolfscenics.co.uk) finally found a 3D scan of one which is detailed enough to make into 1:30 waterline scale. photos below. Thank you Paul !!

I was with Clive from Grey Goose today and we put it together (or tried to - many small bits we couldnt figure out yet and we didnt remove all the scotch tape yet!) mostly then added 7 Figarti vehicles and K&C US crew (with 1 Figarti British naval crew from a Chicago special) and hey presto its done. also replaced the smaller Oerlikon AA guns with larger 3D printed bofors as they look better (I know its ahistorical but ive used a bit of artistic license!)

Looking forward to what everyone thinks of it.... then id better get spray painting it.

I’m curious if you have permission from Figarti to do so. I know Clive is or was a Figarti distributor so maybe that’s sufficient.

its not a scan or direct copy of the Figarti LC. The figarti LC is just a British Mk VI LC so Paul Bell found a scan of that someone did and paid to use it and print for us. so no issues. The Figarti version is actually about 7cm longer than our 3D one. wierd. we stuck to the original measurements.

Just to clarify terminology in that '3d model' is a better description rather than 'scan'. Like a lot of the work I produce in 1-30 scale, it often starts life as a wargaming scale model that someone has sculpted using 3d modelling software, which I then modify and scale upwards. In the case of this MkVI landing craft I finally managed to find a 3d designer in Holland who had produced the model from scratch for the 1-100 wargaming market. After purchasing the model it was then scaled up. That's generally where the work starts for me in that lots of small details in 1-100 are often disproportionate when scaled up so much to 1-30. Railings are a good example here so I had to sculpt my own railings, anchor guides, etc, to make them more suitable for the larger scale. As Stefan said, I also used 'real' dimensions for 1-30 so it does come in slightly shorter than the Figarti one but still plenty big enough for those lovely vehicles he has.

Hi guys just to be clear, I only used the Figarti name in my header to attract attention as thats what inspired me. I’ve been working with Paul for a while to develop the MKV1 LCT. It has been developed as he says from a smaller scale kit. Not only is it the correct length to scale but it is a waterline version and modular so unique. But it is a MKV1 LCT same as any other. I should also mention that I showed the prototype to Clive yesterday for the first time and he thought it was great, particularly as he had regrettably sold his Brit camo version some time ago.
