Figure ID (1 Viewer)

Hi Guys,

I think that they are copies of the Hinchclif figures and others from the 1970's. When I was a kid in the 70's I cast soldiers with my dad from molds we got from Dutkins. They were metal molds and not the rubber/silicon and we only did drop casting because we ddi have the tech for a spin casting set up. Probably a good thing I never thought about it using a turn table because it would have been really messy!

Great quest to find info on these guys.

Mike,

The Zulu war figure does look like Hinchliffe CS5. See below from a 1975 Military Modelling magazine. It could also be CS8 as the casting has a holster on the figure.

Scott

Thanks - looks like CS8 or a variant of it.

What did happen to the Sanderson range moulds? Did they go to Skytrex along with everything else?

Mike

Thanks for the spot - seems an odd figure to have copied...

Mike

Oh, I don't know. It's a nice figure, and if these molds do indeed come from a hobbyist, I could see that he made molds of things that caught his eye. I can see painting it up and standing it with a 1/32 WWI model.

Prost!

I could understand making moulds of the Sanderson range if you couldn't get the figures any more and wanted to make a large diorama. But why cast a one off figure you could buy?

I stand by, "personal taste". He probably liked it. Besides, have you gotten through the whole lot of molds? Are there any others with similar figures. Also, you touch on another reason with your question--he could cast copies and not have to buy them, or turn around and sell them. I'm not saying that's right, but it could explain it.

Prosit!
