Finished diorama-Battle of Le Loi street, Hue, Tet 1968 (1 Viewer)

Hi Pat

Thanks for posting the close up shots. Couple of my favourite details are the Dragons head on a wall post and the traffic sign for carts and bikes ^&grin

Steve-These are great-I already had some of them (but not nearly all of these)plus other small details which I haven't put out yet. . If you look closely right under the Phone tower is a Mad magazine. I also have a bunch of garbage and crapola that I am going to spread around shortly but haven't as of yet, but will be sure to add some of yours too-thanks for sharing these.

Thanks Pat and now why didn't I think of Mad Magazine. ^&grin
Great idea to add to scenes.

Cheers
Steve

That "museum piece" is a marvel to behold! ...^&grin
The amount of details that you put into the setup really made this TOP SHELF.
The Coke machine was special, as was all the signs and all the other "home-made" items you included.

QUESTION: Did you design the entire layout from the beginning or did it go a bit ad hoc as inspiration struck you at the moment?
It is fun to study the pictures and see something new with each scan.

From US WWII Carrier decks to a battel in the Vietnam War …. you have quite a TALENT!!

LaRRy- I originally did a cardboard mock up of the whole thing to figure out the dimensions and lines of site. Below is the second step in which I set up the rough scenario before adding any of the detail. It was going to be somewhat smaller but just kept growing as I got more ideas, like adding the temple. I frequently look at eBay 1/24 sites for my vehicles, where I came across the coke machine and garage stuff you can see through the half open grating. I remembered seeing old rusted machines and equipment full of bullet holes in Hue when I was there in 69, hence the inspiration for the coke machine and leaking coke juice.....

Also-I was hunting thru some local garage sales looking for oriental themed items for the diorama when I found a very cool looking (don't know what it was but it was cool looking) that had this lions head perched on top. I wrapped it in 2 part compound called "Amazing mold putty" ($18 on Amazon) then cast it in resin for the Bridge abutments and gate columns. I'm still experimenting with the colors, but should have them done for Chicago. You can see the other garage sale "finds" that I incorporated into the walls.
