I got the new K&C LCVP, some US Rangers and the Saving Private Ryan sets a few months ago and intended to make a diorama of a beach landing scene to display them. My initial plan was to make my own base using model water and dirt. However, the model water proved difficult to apply, I got distracted by other projects, and the diorama fell by the wayside. Then I found out Build-A-Rama was back in business and could make custom mats. Mark made me a custom 24”x12” D-Day Beach mat for me and my diorama was basically finished... Here are some pics. Enjoy 😃

Simple, straight forward and... Beautiful!
Congratulations and merry Christmas,
Andy.

All the elements are very complementary in this setup: the LCVP, the figures, the BAR Mat and you presentation.
Really well done.

Hi Tman,

Seeing your excellent diorama inspires me to break out my Land Craft. With just a few pieces, you've created a most impressive display; professionally done. I purchased a Build-a-Rama mat a few years back (one with water, sand, and grass). Never liked how it won't rest flat on the table because of the water section. Did you experience any problem getting yours to rest flat?

In any case, looks great!

You've managed to pack plenty into your diorama.

Well done :salute::

Steve

Thank you everyone for the kind comments, I really appreciate it 😃

WesternOutlaw, to answer your question, I didn’t have any issues with the BAR mat not lying flat or curling at the edges, though I’ve had that issue before with other BAR mats. I included a picture below of my test setup with just the mat, LCVP, and figures on my living room floor and there was no significant curling:

When I mounted the mat in the frame, I glued it to a 12”x24” piece of craft plywood using CA glue so it would have some rigidity.

WesternOutlaw, to answer your question...
Thanks, looks great! Mine is really curved where the water meets the sand. Tried flattening with different techniques with no luck. After paying $60/$70 for it, I was rather disappointed in the quality. Yours looks good.
